RTW hit with 2nd recall in days

A press release from RTW yesterday April 24, 2015 said a recent routine FDA inspection of Inventure’s Jefferson, GA production facility provided a positive test for listeria monocytogenes.
However, it said the company reports that it has not received any consumer claims related to illness from these products.
“However, out of an abundance of caution and part of a commitment to the absolute quality of our products, we have decided to recall all Fresh Frozen® Vegetables produced in Jefferson,” Inventure said.
The following products with UPC codes as listed are affected and, accordingly RTW, is removing all these product from its shelves, and recalling all these products from its customers:

The release said Customers should return unused products to their nearest store for a full cash refund. Proof of purchase is not required.
“RTW urges all its customers to check their freezers for the Fresh Frozen® products listed above and to either dispose of them or return them to a Rite Way store for a refund,” the release said.
According to the release, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Recalled products awaiting destruction
Speaking to this news site today April 25, 2015, Dawn J. Callwood, Marketing Manager of RTW said the latest recall was received from the supplier yesterday morning April 24, 2015. “What we have done so far is to send notification to all our stores to remove the product from our shelves and have them sent up to the warehouse so that they could be held for destruction by the food and health authorities,” she said.
“When I left the office yesterday at the time they were already out of our stores. I had contacted our wholesale customers as most of those products are used by the food service industry,” she said.
“What led to the recall is the company did one of their standard tests and they found the bacterium and issued the voluntary recall. They have not been able to confirm whether the bacterium was found in more than one product but just for precautionary measure they are pulling products until it can be confirmed,” said Callwood.
Blue Bell purchases being refunded
Callwood noted that with regard to the Blue Bell product recall, persons have been coming in to return the items and collect their refunds. She said Blue Bell is one of the most popular brands on the shelves in terms of ice cream and as such the recall has affected business.
Just over a month ago, local stores were asked to remove boxes of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese suspected to contain metal.
This is in reaction to Kraft Foods Group Incorporated recalling 242,000 cases of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese because some of the boxes may contain metal.
