SABBATH HILL, Tortola, VI- The Rotary Club of Central Tortola has attributed its innovative approach to fundraising and membership for its success, being just three years in existence.

Past President Shan Mohamed, speaking at a meeting of the club at his residence in Sabbath Hill on February 16, 2024, disclosed that the club has over 200 thousand dollars in its bank account and is embarking on other initiatives to further strengthen the club financially to achieve its goals for the community.

Acknowledging the presence of rotarians fom other clubs, Mr Mohamed said all four Rotary Clubs do fantastic work in the Virgin Islands, and some clubs are better suited for some people.

"I, of course, would be biased when I say that Rotary Club of Central Tortola has made great strides and is a good choice for good reasons.

"We are committed to what we do. We took on an impossible task of forming a 4th club in a very small BVI community and met enormous resistance along the way. But we never gave up and today we are perhaps among the very strong clubs in the British Virgin Islands."

Over $200K in bank account

Mr Mohamed said if persons are thinking of being a part of an organisation that is committed not only to the VI but to the world as a whole, "I think that Rotary and Rotary Club of Central Tortola could be a good fit for yourself."

The Past President reminded that the club meets only twice a month, “which allows busy people enormous flexibility."

He also said the Club has taken an innovative approach towards fundraising. "I can share with you that the Rotary Club of Cenral Tortola, even though it is a relatively new club, has over two hundred thousand plus in its bank account.

"So we have taken fundraising to a whole new different level."

Mr Mohamed said the idea is that the club is not going to go out every time asking for donations but to perhaps invest in businesses that can generate return.

He spoke of the club investing in billboards and that an investment club has been formed, which will not only be accessible to Rotary Club of Central Tortola Membership but to the wider VI.

The Rotary Club of Central was officially chartered on January 15, 2021.
