Roosevelt Skerrit re-elected as DLP leader, unopposed

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was re-elected as the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) leader unopposed during the party’s delegates conference held in Vieille Case on Sunday.

Hundreds of party supporters reportedly braved inclement weather to attend the event.

In his address to the delegates, supporters, and the nation, Skerrit focused on three main areas: sustainable development, economic resilience, and social development.

The prime minister also re-upped his commitment to resilient housing, and education.

Finance Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre was elected as Deputy Leader unopposed.

General Secretary of the party is Cassanni Laville, while Cozier Frederick was elected as Assistant General Secretary.

The new President of the DLP is Ambassador Emmanuel Nanthan, while Ian Pinard is Vice President.

Lady Catherine Daniel is the Treasurer, and Clarence Christian is Assistant Treasurer.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Simeon Albert

International Secretary- Gregory Riviere

Labour Women’s Coordinator- Sonia Williams

Labour Youth Coordinator- Phillip Rolle

Election Officer- Ericson Romain

Trade Union Coordinator – Amour Thomas

Party Welfare Officer- Lucy Lawrence

In an interview on DBS Radio in the weeks leading up to the November 10 conference, Skerrit had expressed rock-solid confidence in a no-contest victory for himself.

“In respect to the party leader, we don’t expect there to be any contest,” he said. “There is no vacancy now.”

“I have no doubt that it will be uncontested. As of the Delegates’ Conference coming up, I don’t expect any contest for the leadership of the party,” Skerrit added.
