RiteWay customers raise $1,000 for Lions Club Literacy Drive

PASEA ESTATE, Tortola, VI - The Lions Club of Tortola has received a $1,000 donation raised by RiteWay Food Markets customers to support the BVI Book Tree community literacy initiative. The funds were collected through RiteWay’s RoundUp programme, which allows shoppers to round up their checkout totals to aid local charitable causes.

Boosting Territory Literacy

The BVI Book Tree provides free books to children and young people from infancy through age 16 and beyond. Launched in June 2023 in collaboration with Nook BVI Ltd. and Unite BVI, the programme encourages leisure reading and nurtures an early love for books. Monthly book distribution events take place on Tortola on the first Saturday of each month alongside territory-wide outreach activities.

Expanding Across the Islands

In 2025, the literacy drive expanded its services beyond Tortola to reach children in Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost van Dyke. This wider reach is supported by Unite BVI, Nook BVI Ltd., the Valley Sound Lions Club, and the Anegada Lions Club Branch.

The initiative aligns with the Lions Club of Tortola’s 2026–2027 theme, Service from the Heart, uniting community partners to make reading materials accessible across the Territory.

The Lions Club expressed gratitude to RiteWay Food Markets and every customer who contributed at checkout.

      Rite way management and shareholders need to take care of their obligations when customers get hurt in their stores.
      This is often overlooked because they have money and sweep every things under the rug.
      Poor products and high prices.
      One mark has a good operation and we are proud of management. Good products and good customer service.

    I commend Lions Clubs of BVI for this literacy approach to the youths.
    For years we have struggled without a public library. This is not about Rite way, OneMark, or Bobby’s. It is about our children.
