SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – Third District Representative Hon. Julian Fraser, RA urged members of the team responsible for road repair works in the Third District to display more respect for residents by improving the signage placed when construction work is being done.

His comments came during a meeting held on April 28, 2014 at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre to provide an update to residents in Pleasant Valley, Palestina Estate and surrounding areas on the National Disasters - Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project -Pleasant Valley Road and Bridge Rehabilitation Project that is currently ongoing in Pleasant Valley.

“Signage has to be a part of your investment. The things that have been done in the Territory in the past need to stop,” Hon. Fraser stated, “we need to respect people more, put proper signs up.”

Hon. Fraser related an incident where signs were not placed on the main road and drivers had to turn back after they had gone some distance and learnt that a road had been closed to two way traffic.

According to the Third District Representative, the level of tension coming from residents would be reduced with this kind of implementation, regardless of how difficult works projects tend to become. “People would not complain if they are treated with respect,” he continued.

“Have your team be more diligent in making sure that residents feel comfortable traversing the area,” he urged while making recommendations during the community meeting.

Hon. Fraser also acknowledged that the project being embarked upon was not a simple project and noted that both Hannah’s and the Pockwood Pond area are floodplains.

Engineers apologised for the situation with the signage currently in place and promised to remedy it. They also explained that the project is expected to be completed within the next five months.

All about the 3rd district huh? What about the rest of the island? No mention that this should be a practise everytime, whenever and wherever.

Respect people more? all I can do is just smile at that phrase.

given there was no public meetings or information before breaking ground. There is never any public involvement until people speak up. Respect is also that people live here and should be asked and informed.

I was there. I doubt if ten residents were present. We were overshadowed by a huge media and government contingent. Could have done with a few more drawings. Nobody seemed to pick up the fact that there is a bit of a holdup because they cannot get the permission of land owners either side of the bridge to make a short temporary road while they rebuild it., what a ting! Doesn't government have any power or balls at all?
