ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As the curtains fall on the Virgin Islands Music Festival 2024, so has the controversial one-woman boycott that never got off the ground.

Persons went out to support the event and those who did not, reportedly stayed away because of high ticket prices, it being a non-paid weekend for government workers or because they were not impressed with the artiste line-up according to a survey conducted by our news centre, sampling some only 35 persons.

In addition to that, the new grounds used behind the Ralph T. O’Neal Administration Complex is a huge space and on Saturday, May 25, 2024, which was night two of the event; the size of the space made about an official count of one thousand attendees look like half or three-quarter of that size according to BVI Tourist Board organizers.

The final night of the VI Music Festival had a modest crowd as they enjoyed performers by Sistah Joyce, Gramps Morgan, Freddie Jackson, OMG Band and DJ Pushpop among others.

We needed the new space

Many residents agreed that the VI Music Festival has excellent potential to be great however, a major challenge for 2024 was forward planning and the booking of more popular musical acts.

While the Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) took some criticisms for the event and even commissioned the grounds, the new reclamation site is now prime real estate in Road Town.

Many have now praised the vision of Premier Wheatley for having another open space in the capital city for the events. It was the Senior Legislator, Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) who had labelled Dr Wheatley "as a Premier ahead of his time".

Several residents on Facebook and other social media platforms are now requesting the 70th Anniversary of Festival to be held at the location. Others are saying it can be used as commercial space, while some opined that it should be used permanently as the new Festival Ground or for other large national events.

For clearing land that was a poor use of space to begin with?

All this great waterfront space along the front of RT and what do we do with it? A driver's ed cone test and acre after acre of poorly maintained parking lots.

There hasn't been vision here for 30+ years. And nothing will be done with this now cleared lot except eventually manifest as yet another dumping ground for rubbish.

If failing up was a person it would be him. Andrew Fahie stacked his party with feckless members and now you’re stuck with him. Do nothing and pose for worthless photo ops.

Does this vision involve the government investing upwards of a million every time there is an event and yet not receive any of the profits for the investment?

Say what you want, the ones that are to profit, should be the ones that do the investing. We ain't getting nothing back in the treasury. Pay your election backers out your own pocket.

The venue is a nice venue. Give the Premier his credit. I personally love the location . Festival should def be held there. Use the old grounds for parking. Multi level parking . Cline made this big up-roar when the premier knew he got this one right.

Yes infrastructure ect..is indeed bad but I trust the premier will get the work done. These things just don’t happen over night. Takes a lot of time a planning in order for it to be done properly. The inferstricture have been in a state of dire need for years. I think it’s unfair that people like cin** and others are using it as a weapon to discredit the current Gov. Why didn’t you have the same energy when the NDP was in power. The infrastructure was the same .. bad roads , sewage, electricity, water..

Cin** have a personal vendetta for the premier and it is obvious.

    Absolutely not.

We have a festival grounds that we can use.

This was just another way to get money in the pockets of cronies.

Natalio being a visionary is the joke of the week.

It should be free. We as tax payers bring these sodomites who sells their soul here. Governments around the World print money. Did you ever see an old dollar bill wash out and decades old,or do you see clean well printed money worldwide. You would NEVER see old money because the government shed the money. The World could NEVER get broke. Money is a power of control to keep us enslaved. Without money the ELITES and their government can't control US. Don't comment to me if you don't have sense, just don't comment to me just go and look up at the Sky. The sky watches and listen to you. Stars aren't so big. Wake up

Where there is no vision, the people perish. I want to congratulate the Hon. Premier Dr. Nathalio Wheatley for the visionary leadership he has. The reclamation of the plot of land behind the Administration Complex was a job well done. The space can be used for many purposes, including crusades, entertainment spot for Cruise Ship passengers, the Opposition Party political meeting place and an excellent car park for persons who have difficulties to find parking spaces in ROAD TOWN for a small fee.

A visionary would have had a plan from the start and would have been fully able to articulate the "vision" and the associated benefits. This is a desperate attempt to cover up an extremely poor decision and a massive, probably fraudulent, waste of public funds. Wheel and come again.

I say, make that area, a temporary parking lot-paid, that is!

The constant driving within the area, hardens the soil, making it an ideal area, for activities, which would lessen the "muddiness" of the area, due to continued, and sustained pressure, on the soil!

Agree that the area cleaned up nice. At what cost we will probably never know. But let me bring something to the attention of the public and I am not at all related or connected in any way. That should not be the Government's new party spot, even though it seems to need one. Why? There is a nice hotel right next door and their guests will definitely be disturbed. I have noticed many Senior Counsel who are here attending proceedings at our Commercial Court staying in that Hotel. It would be quite embarassing to have them up until 3:00, 4:00 in the morning because of our waste-of-money parties. And there are many other paying guests as well. The Festival for instance lasts two weeks. That would be very unkind for those guests and that family, who are taxpayers, and running their newly renovated hotel next door.

I do agree though that a paid parking may be a good idea.

I see a 20 ft. storm surge from Hurricane Natalio's eye wall sweeping into Road Harbor in the near future and removing all man made structures near sea level in Road Town from Fort Burt to Baughers Bay. All the debris from this catastrophic destruction will be piled on top of the ESHS and the adjacent courthouse.

Special thanks for removing all the obstacles to storm surge protecting the old CAB!
