Redhead smashes double century in win over RTW
RTW won the toss but gave Grenada the first knock. That decision, however, backfired as Grenada's opening batsmen David Johnson and Redhead sscored a superfast 383 to leave RTW no chance of seeing the light of victory.
Johnson dealt in boundaries for his unbeaten 160, striking 15 fours and 15 sixes, while Redhead slammed 14 fours and 22 sixes for his record setting 209 not out, leaving the RTW bowlers wicketless at the end of the allotted 20 overs.
When it was their turn at the wicket, RTW struggled to post a respectable reply, managing only 70 all out in 18.2 overs. Randy Maryshow took 2 wickets for 12 runs from 3 overs. Kitason Francis took 2 wickets for 5 runs from 3 overs. M. Pierrre also got 2 wickets for 6 runs from 4 overs and Darell Redhead 2 for 12 runs from two overs.
Vincy crush Island Stars
In the second encounter of the day, Vincy defeated Island Stars by 96 runs after batting first and posting another defying first innings total of 297 for the loss of just four wickets.
Like the Grenada mammoth total earlier against RTW, 297 proved too much for Island Stars to handle.
Vincy’ captain Austin McDowall was left unbeaten on 98 with 6 fours and 11 sixes. McDowall and opening batsman Sylvester Mitchell, who struck 62 with 6 fours and 2 sixes, were power hitters for Vincy on the day. They also got meaningful support from Orlando Ollivierre who made a quickfire 30 that included 3 sixes and 2 fours and Curtis Jack, who was caught after a superfast 40 runs, smashing 7 fours around the Greenland Park.
Island Stars, in their reply, fell into early trouble after losing their opening batsmen Keelan Robin for no score and Jack Durand for only two runs.
Wayne Phillips tried to stage a comeback for his team, but when he fell for 28 after hitting 5 fours, two other batsmen, Kit Woods and Dion Clark, failed to trouble the scores.
Lenroy Murray kept hope alive for Island Stars with a decent 38, striking 4 fours and 2 sixes and was assisted by Rosaul Manicore (24) and Cory Chin who put in some resistance late in the order with his unbeaten 37 runs.
Morry Ollivierre was the pick of the bowlers for Vincy with his three-wicket haul. He received good backing from Motinda Pope who bagged two wickets.
General Manager of the 2015 20/20 title sponsor LIME BVI, Sean Auguiste, and head of Retail Sales and Customer Experience at LIME, Ravi Maywahlall interacted with representatives from the 13 teams in the competition to signal LIME's committed support for cricket in the VI.
Action continues next Sunday March 29, 2015 with reigning 2014 20/20 champions Vikings taking on Wolues at 10am, while Royal Knights seek to repeat their recent victory over 7th Day Adventists when they meet Cavaliers at 2pm.
