“Red red wine” sweet but not enough! [Photo-slide Included]
Campbell came on stage exactly at 10:30 p.m. with “Here I am baby” and rolled on with songs such as “The way you do the things you do”, “Lonely Girl”, “Grooving” and also delivered a few from his solo albums Big Love and Flying High.
It threatened to rain but patrons responded with umbrellas while others didn’t seem to mind getting wet at all as long as Campbell continued to roll back the good years especially with well received songs such as “Stick by me”, “It’s Impossible” and “Kingston Town”. Campbell told the crowd he “respected them” for refusing to get out of the drizzle as he kept them in full party mode.
Persons were seen singing along, clapping, and dancing in groups but soon it would come to an end and this was well anticipated when he started his signature song “Red Red Wine”. As expected, it received the best response from the crowd but they seemed to have wished for more even if it was a repeat of some of the songs already sung.
It was then 25 minutes to midnight and it seemed persons would have lingered with expectations for more had it not been for the heavens opening up totally and sending everyone scampering for cover, except for a couple of persons who just stood there as though in disbelief that the concert was really over. In fact one person stood with his hands outstretched and begging for more.
It could be said that the show was more of an appetite wetter for the final concert tonight, which will be headlined by 9-time Grammy award winning singer and song writer John Legend.
Earlier, it was a regular performance by Quito and the Edge as they dished out a usual neat show.
The concerts are organised by the National Parks Trust (NPT), as part of its 50th Anniversary celebrations. The NPT hopes it would be an annual event. Monies raised will go towards the reconstruction of the Queen Elizabeth II Park, which was designated as a National Park in 1974 and is one of the oldest parks in the Virgin Islands.
