RBVIYC wishes Thad A. Lettsome ‘Bon Chance’ ahead of Paris Olympics
Mr Lettsome was awarded a Universality Place at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, and will join Kyron A. McMaster, Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite, and Adaejah T. Hodge as the athletes representing the VI in France.
‘Bon Chance’
The Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC) celebrated Lettsome and wished him ‘Bon Chance’ at an event at the RBVIYC’s club house on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
According to the RBVIYC, Lettsome joined the Royal BVI Yacht Club youth sailing program when he was just 7 years old. “It wasn’t long before he showed a special talent for sailing and began to compete for the BVI in the Optimist class. He transitioned to the ILCA6 (Laser Radial) and represented his Territory at three Youth Sailing World Championships before taking on the senior circuit in the ILCA7 (Laser),” the club stated.
Since then Lettsome has proudly flown the flag for the VI at 2 PanAm Games, 1 Junior PanAm Games, 1 CAC Games, 4 World Championships and many other regattas.
According to the RBVIYC, the VI’s Olympic sailing history is rich and “we are proud to say that, alongside athletics, it was the first sport to be contested by the BVI at a summer Olympic Games 40 years ago. Since then sailors have also competed in Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996.
