SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – Moving apace to keep on schedule for the releasing of their first Album of Fungi music the Razor Blades which hails mainly from the Sea Cow’s Bay community has titled the album ‘Break ah leg’, a popular creole talk which means ‘dance until you drop’.

Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online recently one of the lead singers Mr Kayron N. Todman said that he is confident that the album will take the airwaves and the purses of persons by storm. He said that of the nine songs that comprise the CD are those already on the radio; love on a mountain; carry me back, ole time medley and Asphalt.

“We did an interview on ZBVI recently and as we were leaving the studio people were outside the doors asking for CDs and they were not out already,” said Mr Todman. With two of the songs out online via Sound Cloud the feedback from the younger generation has been overwhelming.

The four-year-old band is planning to span out their launch during the Easter season possibly both on Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Todman said that they have not yet decided on a definite date as of press time.

Inspired by fans including locals and tourists alike the band chipped in on the talent and experiences of some members of the band who would have been experienced in song writing and production of CD as they would have produced individual CDs before.

“We have some kind of experience in producing CDs, some are new but it’s a learning process for everybody,” said Mr Todman.

He also said that the CD would be one with a difference as it is compiled with different genres of music, “We mix fungi with rapping, fungi with jazz, fungi with country western, we have old time fungi and we spin it a bit for the younger people. So you have a diversity of songs mixed with a fungi flavor,” said Mr Todman.

Todman was high in praise of a number of their sponsors including some private corporate entities but especially some private individuals including their many fans and supporters from the Sea Cows Bay community, Ms Eileene L. Parsons among other friends and families.

Noting that members of the band are usually otherwise engaged with their main income jobs and family they would be looking at producing another CD in about another year and a half. “It’s a lot of work, it’s challenging doing the CDs, it’s a lot of work and stress,” he noted.

The members of the band that are seen on a regular basis are in the vicinity of 12 in numbers but there are about 20-30 youths from the Sea Cows Bay area who are popular with the band especially at Christmas time when they do their usual house-to-house performances.

“At Christmas we go around to people’s house serenading for food, money and such like, mainly a group of boys but professionally it’s just about 12 of us.”

The lead singer said that they see themselves taking on the baton for the older fungi bands like the Lashing Dogs, Originals and Serenaders and becoming the ambassadors for the VI, “To represent the BVI in terms of its culture and indigenous music locally, regionally, internationally and all the lees,” said Mr Todman.
