Rain fails to dampen show @ Tortola Pier Park

Hosted by Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart, the show was not without minor power hiccups which saw about five minutes of everything being offline. However, these were speedily rectified and the local artists all backed by the Alliance Band started their performance.
First up was local culture artist Shine I who gave a good account of himself and connected with the many Rastafarians in the venue. The theme surrounding his lyrics was that black people need to be united.
Following him was Maccabee, another strong local culture artist who gave a good performance of the need to rise up against oppression as a people. Following several minutes of stage, he ended his run with a redo of the Gage dancehall song ‘Dung Inna’, singing instead ‘Dung Inna You Pocket Boy’, a song urging men to support their offspring.
Next was local artist I-Ritical who was very energetic and had the crowd involved as he gave them commands and had them respond to him. The theme of his music was for persons to feel good about themselves.
Next came the highly anticipated performance by Sistah Joyce, the only ‘Empress’ to perform at the show. She had strong support from everyone present but she had a special appeal with the other Rastafarian sisters in the venue.
Sistah Joyce sang her popular songs Cry, Sistah Smokey, Fyah Bun Dem and one of her best known reggae songs, Love Potion to the delight of the crowd.
Chronixx started his campaign at about 1:35 am with Dread and Terrible, with the theme for most of his music being to rise up despite struggle and to shun wickedness. He was backed up by his Zincfence Redemption Band.
Being called the second coming since Robert Nesta Marley, it is easy to see why the artist is so highly rated as his lyrics and vibes seem to flow from a deep inspiration.
He went on to perform his hit tunes Nah give up, They don’t know, Jah wake me up this Morning, Jah Jah never give I more than I could bear, Smile Jamaica and his highly anticipated Here Comes Trouble.
It is clear that persons who paid their $35, (or $40 at the gate) made an investment which paid off and will continue to do so as the lyrics and their messages – not just from Chronixx but all the artists – will be a source of inspiration and encouragement for persons going through a struggle of any nature.
