PWD increases road maintenance & safety works
The Atlantic Hurricane Season began on June 1, 2021, and will officially end on November 30, 2021.
Mr Hodge, according to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) on June 4, 2021, said as the Territory works to develop its collective disaster readiness and security during this time of increased risk, the Public Works Department plans to ensure the soundness of the Territory’s infrastructure as best as possible.
“Prior to and as we officially enter the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season, we continue to clear drains and ghuts throughout the Territory,” the Acting Director said, adding, “Road asphalt patching and some bush cutting will be more apparent as we continue to experience increased rain showers heading into the season; along with speed bump placements where safety is of concern.”
Speed bumps placed on request by District Reps- Hodge
Mr Hodge indicated that while most remedial road works are initiated by the Public Works Department, the placement of speed bumps are a collaborative effort, as they are only placed in communities throughout the Territory at the request of District Representatives on behalf of the community members in an effort to mitigate concerns for safety.
The public is asked to be mindful of the movement of heavy equipment along roadways from Virgin Gorda to Jost Van Dyke and be patient with workers as they carry out the necessary road works.
The Department of Public Works, according to GIS, remains committed to providing a safe, practical, efficient, economically and environmentally sound infrastructure that is well designed, constructed and maintained in accordance with recognised regional and international codes and standards and is in harmony with the Territory's social and economic goals.

POOR ROAD SIGNAGE INFORMING THE PUBLIC.
PLEASE PATCH THOSE POTHOLES ON JOE'S HILL, THEY ARE ANNOYING. ESPECIALLY BY THE BEVERLY HILLS PROJECT (GOVERNORMENT HOUSING PROJECT).
And please stop working during rush hour times when people need both lanes to get to where they are going. Unless it is that the current happenings are intentional for some reason, revisit the way your department is managing road works. Currently PWD should be ashamed! Just read the comments.
2. There needs to be some drainage put in that one way road next to the Noel Lloyd Park. When it rains that place is horrible with water accumulation. Should be against the law. People can't even use the sidewalk there when it rains. Please address.
3. That pool that settles across from First Caribbean International Bank in that parking lot. How long will we have to look at that and be subject to that before drainage is addressed? Needs fixing ASAP.
4. Overall visual needs to be conducted when it rains to ascertain where water is stagnant and how more drainage can be applied. A simple one hour rain should not have our capital looking like it rained for weeks. Come on...
