FAHIE HILL, Tortola, VI – As the race to the 2019 General Elections intensifies, political parties in the Virgin Islands are going hard at their opponents in the quest to win the race.

Chairman of the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM-NDP2), Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) is hitting hard at his former allegiance, the NDP 1 by saying none of the members of the PVIM are corrupt nor under investigation.

Hon Skelton—a former fired member of the same NDP 1—made his comments during a PVIM meeting at Fahie Hill on Thursday, January 24, 2019.

Integrity

“Ladies and gentlemen, we offer you a team with integrity, we offer you a team of honest hardworking men and women, we offer you a team who know how to get things done,” he told those gathered at the Watch House.

Former Opposition Leader, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) had long accused the PVIM as being the same NDP 1 where former key members will attempt to hold themselves accountable.

The party has as its Chairman the fired NDP 1 Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Skelton along with key members, fired Junior Minister for Tourism, Hon Archibald C. Christian (AL) and Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) aka ‘Mitch,’ who tendered his resignation from the NDP 1, on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

Not Corrupt – Skelton

According to Mr Skelton, “We offer you a team of fine men and women who are not corrupt, we are not under any investigation, this is the team we offer the people of the Virgin Islands tonight,” he said.

Mr Skelton had sat under the same NDP Government as a key member when it was being accused of lacking integrity, accountability and transparency.

Co-Leader of Government, Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL) of the NDP 1, is currently involved in a scandal relating to a wall he constructed around the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) costing taxpayers some $1.6M.

Auditor General Ms Sonia M. Webster noted in a report that the project was corrupt with “no value for money” and blatant violations of the law.

Following a series of events with led to the report being handed over to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for investigation, Commissioner of Police, Mr Michael B. Matthews revealed during a recent radio interview, that a Senior Investigator has been assigned to Walwyn’s ESHS wall case.

Wasn't it about a week ago Hon Skelton said monies were stolen and he gave his share to the elderly? Is this what integrity means in the 21st century? Robin Hood admits to stealing then brags that he's not under investigation. Ronnie you BOLD! lol

Social Security is not a government department and as such it has the liberty to choose who they want for the job without being bound by the tender processes of government projects. if you want to be considered for a job let your workmanship and steadfast commitment to your craft speak for itself. Don't be a sore looser.

@ voter: some of the money used during some political campaigns are seeds which was planted over the 3 years while a given party was in electoral office: the service providers will present an invoice to government for $10.00 but only $2.50 goes to that contractor while that $7.50 goes into a special holding account for the politicians: thereafter those accumulated monies are used towards billboards, tents, sound systems and broadcasting during political campaigns(I personally feel so but I often wrong)

Keep Fahie out of this because you all put VIP in the Opposition for the past eight years so you have no point. Punish all of these NDP members who mismanage our tax money.

Ladies and gentlemen, we offer you a team with integrity! Really! Really? There are a few words being bandied about by folks these days and the users been acting as if they know the meaning more than ordinary folks and therefore have a monopoly on it! Words such as transparency, integrity, responsibility and morality. Ok maybe they do have a monopoly but, but, but only in their speeches. There folks be talking for years about consumer protection, integrity in public office, freedom of information etc. HOA has been dissolve without these key laws and my guess is that we'll hearing a lot about them. Some will apologize for the failure while others will proclaim they cannot be blamed. As far as is known the then recent government and opposition were wholly incharge of government affairs. Yikes!

So your saying that you were a clean dog that lied down with a pack of dogs with fleas and yet we couldn't decipher the difference between the clean and unclean for those years?
However, you now left the pack with some of the "same dogs" and now magically your clean? You have a good point. Yea, you're NOT CORRUPT. #notallfleasarebad?

He should have form that party a long time ago and leave the NDP when miss P told him to get from between them. The NDP is turning out to be just like the VIP. And just like Fraser walked away from the VIP, Ronnie, Delores, Archie and Mitch were all doing the same. Only thing is Delores did not get to make it official. You NDP supporters are pretending like they have not done any wrong? Like you. I too was a diehard NDP but not this time, I have choices this time and I will vote for who I think is best fit for the job, I don't care if it a member of PVIM, VIP, NDP, PU or independent. We must do better, and we will.

A true Leader do not blame former nor current associates for mistakes, they take responsibility, and use them as opportunities to better themselves going forward. Shame on you with this little boy talk.

Was the members of PVIM or party accused of being corrupt and should be under investigation? Was the PVIM attempting to differentiate itself from other party(s)? Was it attempting to paint others as being corrupt and under investigation? Ok. Now that is out its system it’s time to complete filling out its slate and presenting plans of action on how it will improve residents lives and righting the tilting ship of state.

Really Ronnie you and the NDP ran on price control two weeks after you got in power you said in an interview that you do not believe in price control then you came out and said that the home for the elderly was not a priority these are the things that you ran on and all the wasted money that was spent to prepare the site for the elderly home could have better been spent into the schools if you knew it was not a priority but don’t worry help is on the way cause we’re moving forward with it after the 25 th we will make it a priority for our senior citizens who deserve better in these Virgin Islands they deserve the best

@What a thing, though price control (price ceiling) is appealing as mean to lower cost, it leads to scarcity and/or poor quality. In basic economics, simply more goods are demanded at a lower price and more are supplied at higher price. For example, setting the a minimum wage is a price floor and often when it is set employers may hire less workers, hurting the very people it was intended to help. In a capitalist system, the market sets the price and allocates scarce resources.
