ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board & Film Commission (BVITBFC) and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) are urging the public to prioritise safety during the 70th Emancipation Festival Celebrations, especially during the Rise & Shine Tramps.

Vendors selling beverages are reminded that selling beverages in breakable bottles is prohibited. Drinks must be served in plastic, paper, or Styrofoam cups.

Revelers are also encouraged to bring their own reusable mugs or cups for beverage refills.

The sale of alcohol to minors is prohibited and an offense punishable by law, a press release from the BVITB&FC today, August 2, 2024, stated.

Avoid drinking & driving

In addition to safety during the Rise & Shine Tramps, the community is reminded to avoid drinking and driving, observe all road safety rules, and ensure that underage children are always supervised.

RVIPF Superintendent Dariel Robinson emphasised the importance of this reminder, stating, "The safety and security of the community are of primary importance to the Police Force."

Clive L. McCoy, Director of Tourism, added, "We want our visitors and residents to thoroughly enjoy the festivities without compromising their safety."

The BVITBFC is coordinating this year’s 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival celebration in collaboration with community volunteers who form the Festival’s Subcommittees.

The 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival kicks into high gear entering this weekend and continuing into next week with village entertainment, food fairs, the grand parade, tramps and cultural celebrations at East End and Carrot Bay.
