PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands continues to recognise Public Service Week 2024 with a Spelling Bee Competition this evening.

Public Service Week is this year being celebrated under the theme ‘Unity in Service: Our Public Service Standing Together’.

The Spelling Bee Competition will begin at 6:00 PM at the Eileen L. Parsons Auditorium on the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College campus. The proceeds from the competition will be donated to a school of the winning team’s choice.

The public service has ben divided into four teams- Warriors, Eagles, Panthers and Supersonics- for this week’s activities.

A week of unity & celebration- Deputy Governor

Deputy Governor Mr. David D. Archer in his message for Public Service Week said, “Every day, every week, and every month and throughout the year, twenty-five hundred public officers show up to work. They teach us, they protect us, they guide us, they write policies.”

This week he said, public officers are told thank you. Mr. Archer called the week one of unity and celebration as well as a time to recognise the hard work and dedication of public officers.

“[They work] every single day to make the BVI safer, more powerful, richer, healthier, cleaner,” Mr. Archer said.

Public Service Week activities should consist of Intense Customer Service Training with concentration in:
    - Get off your phone and serve the people
    - Those nails are slowing up your typing skills and sorting documents
    - The brooms you paste on your eyelids in the name of fashion is obstructing your sight
    - Telling your colleague about what your other colleague do for the weekend infront a customer is inappropriate
    - Looking at customers as if they are stupid and less than you and:
    - a sound reminder, preferably print it out and paste it by your desk to remind yourself that you have a job because of the customers
