VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The Ministry of Communications and Works has encouraged members of the public to participate in the EIS Expansion Project - Public Consultation Survey.

The Ministry of Communications and Works and the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) embarked on a series of public community meetings as they gathered data for a Greenbook Business Case for the possible expansion of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works Mrs Elvia Smith-Maduro said the notes received from the public during these consultations will be fed into a model being used to develop the Greenbook Business Case.

Smith-Maduro was speaking at a community meeting at the Catholic Community Centre in Virgin Gorda on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

The Greenbook Business Case will consist of a strategic outline: the economic, management, financial, and commercial aspects. The Cabinet has already approved the strategic outline.

Public encouraged to take survey

Moreover, a public survey is also available and can be found at https://forms.office.com/e/YNCd8LY9Cs.

The Permanent Secretary encouraged community members to “go and do the survey”.

She also informed that those who may have additional concerns, questions, or suggestions may contact the Ministry of Communications and Works at mcw@gov.vg with the subject line: ‘Airport Development’.

These may also be forwarded to the Director of Special Projects, Mr Clive Smith at clivemsith@bviaa.com.

Mrs Smith-Maduro also assured that the results of the Greenbook Business Case will be shared with the public who will have an opportunity to ask questions and “pick it apart”.

    Questions:
What are the arrival figures from the USA Pre -AA (best years non-pandemic) and Post AA? Are the figures the same or with little change? If so could this just be a mere diversion of the numbers from SJU-EIS to MIA-EIS? Building is one thing, maintaining another, Anguilla is expanding their airport terminal alone for 100 million (12 Million from the UK) while Nevis is expanding their runway for 47 Million to accommodate the same AA Embraers that are coming here. I am more concerned with the viability of this project which will most likely be in the range of 200 million. I hope we not mortgaging our children's future with this project.
