PSC mechanism can be used to discipline public officers– Hon Rymer
Just recently Najan Christopher and Lorna Stevens were charged by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for Breach of Trust by a Public Officer with charges stemming from separate matters.
Appearing alongside Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) in a press confernece, Hon Rymer said the Public Service Commission (PSC) has internal mechanisms for disciplinary actions in the sector.
PSC could dealt with issue - Hon Rymer
“There are different mechanisms within the service that I think could have been used instead of going directly to the criminal aspect of charging public officers… there’s a public Service Commission that deals with disciplinary actions for public officers.”
Meanwhile, the Premier added that while there are concerns, all must still acknowledge that the VI has separate branches of Government and that the office of the DPP is independent with him seeking to have no influence over that office.
"But certainly within her office and within the police, they have to weigh all the things that Hon Rymer and I would be concerned about, but they have to weigh those things independently outside of any influence from any elected official, [or] anybody else." the Premier said.
