PEG LEGS, Nanny Cay, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has credited the BVI Spring Regatta as a major contributor towards promoting the territory.

Dr Wheatley was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 52nd BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival on April 3, 2025, under the theme ‘Warm Water, Hot Racing, Cool Parties!’

He thanked Nanny Cay, Scrub Island, Marina Cay, the BVI Spring Regatta organising team, the Royal BVI Yacht Club, BVI Yachting, Hotel and Tourism Association, and other partners and sponsors who made this year’s regatta a success.

“The BVI Spring Regatta plays a very valuable role in helping us to showcase Destination BVI.”

Premier Wheatley said tourism is one of the main pillars of the Virgin Islands (VI) economy.

“The influx of hundreds of visitors every year for this regatta makes a much-appreciated direct contribution to our tourism businesses – from the marinas and charter companies to the tour operators, and, of course, the hotels, guest houses, bars, and restaurants.”

Media publicity & word of mouth help draw visitors- Premier Wheatley

This year’s regatta, which ended on Sunday, April 6, 2025, saw over eighty entries and the participation of boats from fifteen countries including other Caribbean islands, the United States, Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.

As usual, the Premier said, the regatta attracts some of the best and fiercest competitors in the sport.

“The media publicity and word-of-mouth testimonials that you share with your friends and family, also help to draw visitors to our shores….To those of you who are repeat visitors, we are happy to see you and we look forward to hosting you again and again.”

Premier Wheatley pledged his government’s continued support to the BVI Spring Regatta, an annual event which has been held since 1973.

So there was no entertainment, what about all the bands who put there all to entertain the audience? Not one day in the news I was a band and their hard work in the photos taken from Spring Regatta, this really a shame.
