ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A proponent of regional unity and cooperation, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) extended “warm wishes” to the government and people of Barbados on their 58th independence anniversary on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

“Happy Independence Day, Barbados! I extend warm wishes to all Barbadians on this special day. May you celebrate your rich culture, resilience, and the unity of your people. Here's to a future filled with hope, progress, and continued strength. Enjoy this momentous occasion and the celebrations ahead!” Dr Wheatley stated.

Barbados cut ties with Queen

Barbados became fully independent on November 30, 1966, after over 360 years as a British colony.

On November 30, 2021, at a ceremony attended by hundreds of officials, including Prime Minister Mia A. Mottley, the Prince of Wales, and national icon and pop star Robyn Rihanna Fenty, the Caribbean island of Barbados became a republic, cutting ties with Queen Elizabeth II and casting off the last major vestige of its colonial past.

Becoming a republic meant Barbados officially removed Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state.

In this territory Independence should not be a Political Decision let our people go to same election polls and Vote Yes or No on the Matter of Independence: Some should always remember it is because we are a British Territory the People were able to get supplies During that Unforgettable COVID 19: The Same United Kingdom made Sure this Territory was Ok: What do we have to become an Independent Nation; Independence is a Very Serious Matter, might be a good concept
