Premier Wheatley attending CARICOM Heads of Gov't meeting in Grenada

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada, WI- Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) is currently in St George’s, Grenada attending the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government meeting.

According to a press release from the Premier’s Office, the meeting which began on Sunday, July 28, 2024, will end on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

During the meeting, the CARICOM Heads of Government will discuss the agri-food systems, which prioritises food and nutrition security, climate change and sustainable development, foreign policy, and the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Hurricane Beryl and its impact on the Region will also form part of the discussions.

Meeting presents pivotal opportunity

Premier Wheatley said, “The upcoming meeting presents a pivotal opportunity to address key issues impacting our region. By focusing on agri-food systems, we aim to enhance food and nutrition security, build climate resillience, and promote sustainable development.”

He expressed anticipation for participating in the regional gathering and emphasised the importance of collaboration among CARICOM member states for regional development and cooperation. 

“Together, we will forge a path towards a more secure and sustainable future for the people of the Virgin Islands, and our neighbours,” the Premier added.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade, Honourable Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL), has been acting as Premier and Minister of Finance from July 27 until August 1 2024, when Premier Wheatley is scheduled to return to the Territory.

    Didn't it just have some sort of heads of government meeting here last week? What will they discuss that they didn't talk about already. Climate change I guess while nothing is being done. Is our Mister Premier making sure he don't miss anything overseas or do all of them sit and plan to make sure it going always have a conference somewhere for all of them to go at the expense of the treasury. Is like doing a set a exams and still dunce

    The Premier will be signing on to the free movement of Caricom nationals, as well as ensuring that no child born in the Territory is rendered stateless, which is against the UN Declaration on Human Rights.
