Premier Wheatley attending 43rd CARICOM Meeting in Suriname
The heads of CARICOM are expected to deliberate on several matters including the ongoing regional Public Health Response and Economic Recovery measures, advancing regional food and nutrition security, actions to support CARICOM Single Market and Economy implementation and Climate Change and climate financing, Government Information Services (GIS) stated in a press release on July 4, 2022.
CARICOM is made of fifteen (15) states and five (5) Associated States. The VI is an Associate State.
Kye M. Rymer is Acting Premier
Deputy Premier Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) has been appointed to act as Premier and Minister of Finance until July 6, 2022. Premier Wheatley returns to the Territory on July 7, 2022.
Honourable Rymer’s appointment is in accordance with Section 55 (1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007 which states, “If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorise the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier.”

To make provisions for premier or other Cabinet members in the situation of having become inaserated while traveling: To receive full salary until case is tried. In the event of proven Innocent, to be Reinstated in pre-incaserated status with all benefits. Additionally while imprisoned first 3 HOA sessions automatically excused without penalty. Allowance to be made for HOA participation by Zoom or other internet platform.
