Premier slams ‘radio personality’ for reckless dissemination of information

- says no $80K contract was ever inked for a GIS television programme

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has slammed sections of the local media for what he termed reckless dissemination of information, which he says comes at a time when calm is needed in the territory.

“It does not help any of us to spew untruths about the Government of National Unity, as we take steps to drive reform forward, for example,” he said during an address today, May 24, 2022.

The Premier added, “Just a few days ago there was a false report by a radio personality that I gave someone an $80,000 contract to advance a GIS public television programme.”

“This is not true, and I call on members of the media and the public to be responsible at this time when we need calm, you have to maintain stability,” he added.

The Premier said that he remains very concerned generally about the reckless dissemination of inaccurate information and violations of journalistic principles well accepted in democracies across the world.

Conversation with media to come - Premier 

“Given that this subject falls under the Premier’s portfolio, I will begin a conversation with the media fraternity about how we can ensure the public is given accurate information and how we protect members of the public from slander, defamation, and libel.” 

Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) reached out to Premier Wheatley for information on the radio personality and show; however, no information was received up to publication time.

      was he involved with this young lady at anytime during his elected position as Minister or Deputy Premier?
      Was this young lady offered or giving a contract or trade license exemption during or after their relations ‘if they were involved?
      Did his electoral position influence this offer in any way?
      What is his Moral compass as a leader of this territory and are we as a territory willing to hold our leaders accountable for cronyism and mismanagement of public funds?
      If he truly repented as he stated will he allow a full investigation into this matter by the people and the government…as these documents should be public records? The world is watching! God is watching!!!

    Natalio still acting petty...there are so much issues in this country and you have time to rebuff "rumors"....strupes why didn't you address the other "rumor" as well...same sh**...different suit
    We live in a democracy with freedom of speech, if something is said about you, go to a lawyer, don't try to control the media

      That show spews hate, gossip and confusion with no consideration for the individuals, families and children of the people that are the topic of discussion. It is such an embarrassment that people tune in to listen and support that level of disrespect. Media persons have to show some degree of decorum and to deliver fair, honest, accurate and non-critical information. When you continue to behave in this reckless way you are damaging people's lives....not only the person you are attacking but also the children of these people who have to go to school and face their classmates who have also read these things...

    Y'all just hating on this woman because she's not local and still had the balls to call out bulls*** during her tenure at that hating #$%%s company she worked with before. But that's BVI for you! Anybody doing good we try to pull down. The man say no 80k contract doesn't exist, it doesn't exist!

    That one Cindy aint gone learn till she have to sell everything she has, to feed her kids. Imagine these people on the radio spewing lies, damaging this woman's reputation before fact checking. Why the hell would you call that young lady name on a public forum with over 500 viewers LIVE, based on RUMORS? I hope that woman drag all y'all to court because what she does with her )***** has to nothing to do with y'all.
