ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has revealed that his elderly mother, Ms Iris D. Romney was one of the persons hospitalized with COVID-19 at the Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital in the past week.

“Do not play with COVID-19, I continue to urge persons who are able to take the vaccine to take it, ” the Premier said in a statement broadcasted last evening, Friday, July 9, 2021, on the Facebook page of the Government Information Service (GIS).

“I can share with you my family's personal experience over the last week. My mother who is in her 80s, one of our golden citizens, had to be taken to the hospital where she tested positive for COVID-19,” he said.

Hon Fahie revealed that being vaccinated, however, was a life-saving factor for his mother.

Ms Romney safely recuperating - Premier

“The doctors were able to explain to our family that due to her being fully vaccinated, significantly contributed to saving her life. Thank God she is now safely recuperating, the encounter was indeed very scary and traumatizing,” he said.

While recalling the experience, Hon Fahie said he does not wish for anyone else to experience it.

The Premier also encouraged persons to get vaccinated even if the vaccines don’t stop the contraction of the virus, rather, protect the body against it.

“The reality is, the vaccine allows the body to fight the virus with a high level of success so that is why I come to you with my personal experience, strongly recommending that you get vaccinated,” he said.

The Premier also expressed condolences to the friends and families of two recent COVID-19 related deaths in the terriory.

@ “@ hmm) people like you with stupid comments like this makes me sick.…it’s this level of stupidity and ignorance that some persons are buying into that covid-19 isn’t real why we are in the position we are with rising cases and hospitalizations.. what in Jesus’s Name will it take for you all to wake up and realize that this is not a joke and COVID is not “the flu”:. STOP SPEWING LIES. then again the intelligent people will know that it’s not a flu and not listen to your stupid and reckless words.. though we all have freedom of speech, at times it should be taken away from persons like you.. Hon. Premier I’m glad your mom is getting better .. Praise God and I can only imagine how scary the journey was. I Pray God’s Continued Healing for her..

About 5-600,000 people die of flu each year. So far 4 million have died in the 15 months since Covid has been around in force.

Mrs. Iris Get well soon and May God Continue to guide and protect you Always. Born and Raised in the 1st district you have been a Mother to many of us, and your kindness in the 70's and 80's particularly was shown to us daily when you operated the family run business. Money or no Money you ensured that we in the Towers/west End area or wherever we came from left with something in our hands, you never ever let anyone leave empty handed for lack of $$

You will remain in my thoughts and Prayers. Mr. Premier (my dear friend) Keep Strong, and Continue to encourage and plead to the residents of the BVI to get Vaccinated. Not until it personally hits home as in your case, "may" they "truly understand", get serious and get vaccinated.

I happen to reside in a Province of over 15 Million population, whereby I've witnessed firsthand our cases reduced from several thousands daily, to now in the low 100's ! Hospital admissions/mortality/ICU admissions have all drastically fell. We are now entering Stage 3 of reopening our economy, and have learnt that the hard sacrifices we made individually for several months have lead to us once again enjoying a somewhat pre-covid lifestyle. We are thankful and grateful, as we have learnt the hard way to live with covid, so we will continue to follow Health Canada's guidelines, of social distancing/washing hands/and vaccination.

** 54.098% of adults in Ontario (18+) FULLY vaccinated, and 79.045% have received at least one dose.

16, 827,434 doses administered...The Momentum has not been greater as we see all age groups rolling up their sleeves (elderly, youths, gen x, gen y, gen z, just name it).....

My People the Vaccines work !! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PROTECT YOURSELVES AND THOSE YOU LOVE DARELY.

    One Love
    #Mr. White

I do hope the remaning12 unvax hopitslized will also exlerience recovery, but if not, as the saying goes that is scriptually recorded: The lips of the wise feeds many: but fools die for lack of wisdom. Proverbs 10:21 Anotber scripture ssys, wby die before your time? Wise people prefered life. That is why they are proactive doers, not reactive hopers.

Vaccines provide immunity. Immunity is the ability to resist. If you got it once (through vaccination) you should not be able to get it again because of the antibodies present. If you still get it again, you were not immune to it in the first place. Stop calling it a vaccine.
    • Rubber Duck (10/07/2021, 15:44) Like (11) Dislike (8) Reply
That is possibly the biggest load of crap so far presented. Vaccines work by giving you a small dose of the disease ( inoculation ) or of something similar to the disease ( vaccination) .in both cases the body produces antibodies that provide near immunity. Immunity is the state where you cannot catch it. The chance of catching the disease is reduced with all vaccines. Some give you near 100% immunity , some lower. Even if you catch the disease the vaccinated body is already equipped with anti bodies to fight it while the unvaccinated body has to try to make them from scratch. So the vaccinated will have a milder form of the disease even if they do catch it.

You are clearly NOT a doctor, scientist or medical professional. No vaccine is 100%. NONE! Stop spreading lies. The vaccine will save lives. That is a FACT.

You are a God fearing soul Andrew and God had mercy upon your family.

Soo why allow them into the territory without testing on arrival and quarantine ?
This is the fact the vaccine will protect against severity of the virus not stop u from
    Catching or spreading.
    Thanks for sharing .

    Mr Premier,
May God be you and your family. Your mother is thought of very fondly in the first district. Many of us refer to her as Mom. She is a counselor, a mother and a friend.

She gives support in times of joy and sorrow and shares whatever with the community.

We were saddened to hear of your experience but happy she is recovering well. She knows God is the great physician.

God be with us all and our families at this time.

@ Be observant. Good advice about eating healthy foods but I would think that a healthy immune system is not built overnight, but over time eating healthy foods and consuming healthy drinks also, lots of water and doing regular exercise e.g. walking.
