ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has called on the young people of the Virgin Islands (VI) to turn away from a life of crime and violence.

Premier Wheatley, in giving an update to the Territory on various matters during a press conference today Friday, March 21, 2025, touched on the recent surge in criminal activity.

Dr Wheatley also expressed his condolences to the family and friends of those who recently lost their lives, including a man who died by stabbing on Virgin Gorda on March 20, 2025.

“As a community, we grieve with you and pray God will give you strength to get through this difficult time,” he said, “While we mourn every death, it is deeply troubling when a life is taken by violence and crime.”

Crime & violence affects everyone- Premier Wheatley

Dr Wheatley said while a concerted effort by all law enforcement is needed to effectively deal with this problem, community effort is also needed.

The Premier also lamented the armed robbery of US Virgin Islands' artiste Delyno Brown aka 'Pressure' in a parking lot on Tortola on March 15, 2025.

“Crime and violence are not just issues affecting one segment of our society, they impact everyone who lives and works here in some way as well as the persons visiting us here in the Virgin Islands known for their tranquillity and safety. Feelings of insecurity are amplified even more when prized jewels like Pressure is robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot by a gang of young persons, it is unacceptable and highly regrettable that he and others went through this,” the Premier said.

Crime and violence, Dr Wheatley reiterated, are not what is wanted as a society and is not the image the VI wants to project to the world.

“We must redouble our efforts to steer our young people away from crime and violence, especially our young men,” he said.

Turn away from a life of crime & violence- Premier Wheatley

Dr Wheatley issued a warning to those involved in perpetrating the crimes and terrorising the community that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) will continue to vigorously pursue them.

“I want to appeal to our young men and women of our community to turn away from a life of crime and violence. Resist the temptation of the fast life, it could cost you your own life or that of someone you love, it is not worth it,” he encouraged.

The Premier also called on members of the community to share any information they may have that could assist the RVIPF with their investigations.

The work and leadership of Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool was also commended by Premier Wheatley.

“She has been getting results, we hear a lot of times persons are arrested, they are charged and we of course we wait for the court system to do what the court system has to do,” Dr Wheatley said.

Because many agree with your comment doesn’t mean you are right. You should just like the people in the Bible when God appointed Noah who was an alcoholic to build the Ark. You sound just like the people who was on the lady with blood that Jesus had seen fit out of everyone else. Sin or SIN is the same. Your sins are of any less than anyone else’s. God work in mysterious ways. You’d like everyone else to forget about all the tim you probably frig people etc; but want to keep a cloud over someone else’s head. Let and let live stop Judging as you’d be judged as well.

Yes I agree Mr Premier. Our youth should avoid crime by jetting around the world enjoying first class hotels at governments expense

How can you implore them to do better, when you as a leader just brought a convicted murderer for them to sing and gyrate to, are you kidding me?

I appreciate that you denounce it more than once, but it still does not change the fact that when party time comes y'all advertise some artist that only preach and sing about the complete opposite of what your saying... some them even dress a certain way the imitate the fast life

then we have our local artist with their big Gucci chain doing what they do best and singing to the same youths

Easter festival will come and it will be the same thing again

I too share with our Hon. Premier, Natalio Sajuande Wheatley in encouraging not only the youths in the B.V.I, but also adults to turn away from a life of crime, for in doing so, many young lives will be more prosperous, and longevity will be experienced, rather the youthful death.
However, it is not enough tell others what they should do right, but lead them by personal example being experienced of daily righteous actions

Question: Is deliberately mismanaging the finances assets of a country a political crime, and is its chargeable in the Court of Law? If yes, why not, and if yes, why rerely so in the B.V.I Court of laws arena???

Lead by example, not words alone, reimerP, and...

Question: 2. If all crimes were strictly dealt with according to the laws of the B.V.I, approximately how many and

How your figure. You can bring the horse to the pond but you cant make it drink. The problem is deeper that they care to share. Think about it ppl you dont have to be a phd holder to figure the problem behind crime. Crime is a multi billion dollar business. The world leaders has all join in the fight and cant curve it cause they overlook the root causes.
      1. Ability to do crime(meaning simply cause they can)
      2. Criminals just like ceo's they do research( cant break the law sucessfully unless you know the law. Everything written has away round it)
      3. Crime pays well and is untaxed.
      4. Sigma and forgetting everyone has the right to earn money to survive.
      5. Lack of opportunities( you tell person education is the way they listen then spend their last or borrow to get said education graduate only to be hit with your over qualified or worst you have no experiences, meanwhile their cant provide for themselve so what happen they turn misfortune into winning by any means possible they turn to the world biggest employer crime.

      Many other reason.
This life it about survival and the day you believe your going to take people basic right to be a legal provider is the day things get ugly. Hasrh reality but its the world we live in and powerful or the so called highly educated people wont tell you the facts cause they believe it a conspiracy theory. Crime hurt economy hard weather its violent or blue collar crimes. Every the government minister worldwide and their powerful friend get their hands dirty so understand it address it then you can control it.

Many persons in the BVI have expressed bad vybes with pressure for the fact that he grew up in Purcell Estate on Tortola and in his song Virgin Islands Nice not one mention of the BVI. The streets of BVI have been burning bad lamp for Pressure so this robbery comes as no surprise.

The majority of the local artist from the BVI singing the dirty nasty songs. Look at festival time how the nasty dirty women be acting behind their music. Women bending over getting hump and dry F..k on the street like fire crouch rabbits in heat.
