FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has apologised to the people of Anegada for their recent power issues.

He is; however, hopeful the electricity woes will end in early 2025 with the completion of the Anegada Hybrid Renewable Energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project.

“We are doing a renewable energy project over in Anegada and part of the reason why  that renewable project is happening is to provide more stability as it pertains to electricity and of course to be better to the environment...

“Hopefully we can see that project come to completion very soon, hopefully early 2025 and the electricity woes over there will be a thing of the past,” Premier Wheatley stated on Tola Radio VI today, September 19, 2024.

The Government of the Virgin Islands, BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) and US-based Power52 Clean Energy Access, who won the bid for the project, broke ground back in December 2022 for the project; however, it has not yet materialised.

The Government of the Virgin Islands has yet to give a detailed update on why the project has not yet been completed.

Solar always mentioned as a solution after outages - then quickly forgotten again by the powers to be. These successive governments are only talk, talk, talk - no progress at all

Be careful where those solar panels come from. We dont want any exploding panels when those people are ready for a solar beam.

Premiere Wheatley don't let theses sales people fool you, the solar panels won't power Anegorda, it will just compliment the generator during surges and short circuit s, it will not retire the diesel generator.
