ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sustainable Development Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) will be hosting United Nations Resident Coordinator, Mr Didier Trebucq and several UN Heads of Agencies this week.

The Premier will meet with the UN officials from June 14 to 15, 2023, to advance the implementation of the Country Implementation Plan (CIP).

The CIP details various areas of technical assistance to be rendered by the UN in partnership with the Government of the Virgin Islands.

The bilateral discussions, according to a press release from Government Information Services (GIS) on June 13, 2023, will focus on ensuring that the Virgin Islands (VI) achieves its Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to other high-priority areas of the Government of the Virgin Islands.

Discussions to include 'most effective methods' to implement NSDP- Premier

Premier Wheatley said, “I look forward to welcoming the high-level UN delegation to have bilateral talks to further the Virgin Islands’ National Sustainable Development Plan. Among other things, we will discuss the most effective methods to implement the plan, and the progress of existing United Nations programmes in the Territory.”

The Premier also expressed his gratitude to the UN for their unwavering support as an essential development partner, which has offered critical support in the Government’s pursuit of a more sustainable and resilient future as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS).

The Country Implementation Plan details a specialised institutional system tailored to the Virgin Islands that directly addresses national concerns and regional priorities. The plan will also be operationalised as a programming tool that will strategically confront developmental challenges in the Territory.

In addition to the UN Resident Coordinator Office, the UN agencies that will be involved in this mission will include the International Labour Organisation (ILO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Dear UN Heads, please ask Sowande to fix the roads. We have been begging and pleading and at this point, we do not know what to do.

In addition, let him know that a $250,000 party has nothing to do with the UN's 17 sustainable development goals. There are intelligent people here who can more than assist him on how to achieve sustainability but he does not seem to understand. Maybe if he hears it from an entire UN delegation, something might click.

This is a very smart man, he can feel the the rope getting tighter as Britain is given more reasons for taking over because of the Govt failure to implement the recommendations for which they don't care and have no honest intension of doing..So this move may intimidate Britain and get them to peddle back.. Don't forget Mr. Premier you are binded to an agreement with Britain...

Yes, that is what he is trying to do. Upset Britain by getting UN backing but it will backfire because he is a weak leader oversll and the problem is not the UK alone. The problem is mostly his poor leadership and lack of capabilities. This will only backfire and in the end, the tax payers will have to bear the brunt of the costs.
