Premier accuses radio show of trying to ‘undermine confidence’ in his leadership
‘That contract does not exist’
During a ‘One on One’ with the media today, May 27, 2022, Premier Wheatley was asked if the contract does not exist.
“I’m saying that contract does not exist.”
Hon Wheatley noted; however, that the initiative would have been started under the former Premier.
“Yes, I do support and agree for the GIS television show to move forward but no contracts have been issued, except for one contract which may have been issued, I believe, to Digicel….but besides that no other contracts have been issued and I certainly have not given a $80,000 contract to anyone and let me just say about that issue, that issue was widely discussed on the radio.”
Radio show put on blast
The allegations of the contract were first made on ‘The Morning Braff’ show on Tola Radio and were further discussed on the same show during this week.
Premier Wheatley urged the media to be more responsible.
“I think it’s important when you’re communicating to the public and you as members of the media would notice it’s important to verify information and verify from sources that you that you trust and from persons who are in a position to give accurate information and I think it’s quite damaging in my view to disseminate inaccurate information because of course the public has a certain level of trust that this information is accurate.”
Attack on leadership
The Premier then asserted that the information about a contract being awarded was “completely erroneous and seeks to undermine confidence in my leadership and also in the leadership of this new National Unity Government.”
He said the allegations could be damaging as the Territory seeks to stave off a partial suspension of its constitution.
“I’ve listened to some broadcast [and] I would say there’s been several other examples of reckless dissemination of inaccurate, slanderous, libelous and defamatory information and I’m calling on the support of those persons in the media fraternity who know that these things do not conform with the principles of journalism and the principles of democracy. I’m calling on the members of the press corps to condemn those types of actions.
Premier Wheatley also reiterated that he is interested in engaging the media fraternity about how the media can regulate itself, “monitor itself, develop standards that all media houses must abide by and not let any persons who violate those standards cast a bad light on the media fraternity, because I know we have members in the media fraternity who are very hardworking, take their jobs very seriously and shouldn’t be associated with the actions of a few persons who do not abide by the principles you hold dear,” Dr Wheatley stated.

Disinformation is the weapon of the day. Sowende why do you suppose no one believes you? Where there is smoke there is fire. If you are so bothered and right, go ahead and sue the speakers, that is your remedy. Why don't you take it? I'll wait.
Was this young lady offered or giving a contract of ‘Any’ quantity or trade license exemption during or after their relations ‘if they were involved’?
If so…did his electoral position influence this offer in any way?
What is his Moral compass as a leader of this territory and are we as a territory willing to hold our leaders accountable for cronyism and mismanagement of public funds?
If he truly repented as he stated will he allow a full investigation into this matter by the people and the government…as these documents should be public records? The world is watching! God is watching!!!
You said it right. And, a leader should be tough and has the ability and mental strength to lead. A leader should not jump to answer to petty things such as this. The truth will stand and lies will fall, the devil will flee. Some people will go to any length to bring you down because that's how some people is.
1. What the commissioner or His Excellency is doing about the large number of gun in the territory(guns are not made here therefore they slipping through the borders and the governor and commissioner appears to be doing nothing
2. Bring the commissioner or governor on the talkshows and let the residents know What is being done about the big rise in gun crimes in the territory.
3. Have the united kingdom representatives come on your radio shows and update the nation about members of the police department given bale for criminal offenses and skip this jurisdiction
4. Let those with responsibility for the overall security of this territory give an update on the many unsolved crimes. It is alleged that officers from UK came in and was paid related to unsolved killings and no substantial arrest thus far
5. let the commissioner come on public talks shows and advise why no police officers can be seen patrolling especially in road town. U see a set of police after something occurred…
Do not be shy the same how the talking shows people grabbing microphone to cut down your fellow country people STAND UP and Speak out about the grown crime in this once tranquil country
