Preliminary Voter’s List up; Returning Officers named

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Supervisor of Elections Ms. Juliette Penn, is informing the public that the preliminary voters list is now available online for public inspection.

Residents can log on to www.bvi.gov.vg and locate the Government tab on the left hand of the screen. Once the drop down list appears residents should scroll down to the Elections tab then select the 2015 Preliminary Voter’s List.

In accordance with Section 18 (6) of the Elections Act 1994 and Amendments, the Preliminary Voters’ List is available for inspection until May 14.

Every person who claims that his or her name, address or occupation has been wrongfully stated or omitted from the Preliminary List shall give notice to the Supervisor in Form No. 3 within four days after the publication of the said list.

Every person whose name appears on any Preliminary List may object to any other person whose name also appears therein as not being entitled to have his or her name therein, and shall give notice to the Supervisor of Elections in Form No. 4 within four days after the publication of such list.

All claims or objections must be filed at the Elections Office. Forms are also available at the office.

The Elections Office is informing the public of the appointment of Returning Officers for the upcoming General Election scheduled for June 8.

In addition, on May 12, by virtue of the power and authority vested in the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s Office, under Regulation 2 of the Public Service (Delegation of Powers) Regulations, 2015 and of all other powers and authorities thereunto, the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s Office, has appointed the following persons as Returning Officers for the 2015 General Election:

Nolma Chalwell First Electoral District

Clayton O’Neal Second Electoral District

Keturah Crabbe Third Electoral District

Eugenie Donovan-Glasgow Fourth Electoral District

Eunice Crawford Fifth Electoral District

Marva Martin Sixth Electoral District

Avelinda Freeman Seventh Electoral District

Connie George Eighth Electoral District

Zebalon McLean Ninth Electoral District

Raymond Phillips Territorial At-Large Electoral District

Returning Officers are responsible for the conduct of the elections in the districts to which they are assigned. They are expected to be impartial, resourceful, and to perform well under pressure.
