WEST END, Tortola, VI- As far as Jost van Dyke was affected when a car brought down a utility pole at West End, Tortola this afternoon, June 18, 2024.

It is unclear to this news site what caused the driver to lose control of the small vehicle or whether anyone was injured.

The accident took place around 5:30 PM in the vicinity of Driftwood Spa.

Traffic was also affected for some time, as the utility pole hung across the road and police cordoned off the area.

According to BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC), the knocking down of the utility pole caused the Pockwood Pond West Feeder to trip.

It also said areas from Cox Heath to Windy Hill and Jost Van Dyke (JVD) experienced power outages.

Electricity was restored around 6:30 PM, as BVIEC worked swiftly to rectify the problem.

Electrical fire

Meanwhile, oil and residue from a faulty transformer reportedly sparked an electrical fire on the eastern end of Tortola this afternoon.

You see that fire i have a problem with electricity and i made mención of this issue before. They laughted at me. For sure i know who in the kitchen feels the heat. Long before the hurricanes i told electricity to come and take this transformar from so close to my house because it caught fire before and i had to run downstairs to move my vehicle from inside my yard before it blow up because of transformar leakage.
When hurricanes came the pole fell down luckly thectranformer fell forward otherwise we would not have had a step to run on for escape. Thats how close to the house it was.
I beg i plead with them not to put it back their they didnt listened they put it back saying nothing will happen i'm scared to park a vehicle in the little space i have in my yard because that transformar could pitch fire anytime.

Come and tske this transformar from here and put another pole far enough so that if it blow it dont affect my house and yard. You all got this thing for a joke. High tension wires close to house had to cut down my coconut tree for my safety.
Do electricity really care what they do and affect people's pproperty. It is evident they don't care. GOD FORBID NOTHING HAPPENS OTHER WISE THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE HOUSE AND PPROPERTY ALL YOU PLAYING THE FOOL. LOOK AT A TRANSFORMAR FIRE IN EAST. YOU BETTER COME EAST AND INSPECT ALL THESE TRANSFORMARS ESPECIALL THOSE ON THE ROAD SIDES.

I HAVE ANOUT 13 WIRES INCLUDIND HIGH TENSION RUNNING INFRONT OF MY HOUSE AND ANOTHER SET RUNNING ON THE OTHER SIDE. FOR A SMALL PROPERTY ALL THEM WIRES WAS TRIPPING US UP IN THE HURRICANES 2017 TRYING TO RUN FOR SAFETY. DO SOMETHING BETTER TO TAKE AWAY THIS MESS.

Yes they are in the same feeder. But with switches in place, JVD should have power all now. As the cable that goes to JVD run thought carpoon bay right there bumbo shack. The only areas that should be out of power is from where the pole is down going west of it. From the gas station coming back to the station should have power.

A well rested, sober person, in a properly maintained vehicle, paying due care and attention while driving the speed limit could not have managed that.

The hay is wrong with you? You ego is way bigger than anyone else. Have some thought for the people who read your capslock non-sense. Use lowercase, use paragraphs, stop jumping on everyone. Three steps to destress and make yourself less crazed. Final step: Stop studying & liking man.
