HAVENSIGHT, ST Thomas, USVI- A decade after opening the now popular fast-food entity, Yo Mama Kitchen on Wickham’s Cay I, proprietor Marlon J. Choucoutou Jr has expanded his business to the US Virgin Islands (USVI), allowing persons in the US territory to also get a taste of the finger-licking food enjoyed in the [British] Virgin Islands.

Yo Mama Kitchen International- ‘British taste in a different place’ had its grand opening on November 11, 2023, at its location in The Plaza in Havensight on St Thomas.

The business offers lunch and dinner and its opening hours are Monday- Thursday from 10:30 AM to 10:00 PM and Friday-Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:00 AM.

Yo Mama Kitchen opened in the [British] Virgin Islands on May 24, 2013, at Wickham's Cay 1, near Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

There is also a Yo Mama Kitchen outlet in Purcell Estate that opens exclusively at night.

Mr Choucoutou Jr, then 23 years of age, had noted his satisfaction at finally being able to get his business started, “because it was a lengthy process but a lot of blessings...I left Scotiabank to make a full-time commitment here. In this day and age, this kind of transition can be scary, but I got good support and encouragement.”

Asked then about the name of the business- ‘Yo Mama Kitchen- ‘Where the good food is at’- Mr Choucoutou Jr had told VINO: “My mother’s kitchen had good food; people's mothers I know had good food so that is where the good food is at.”

The ‘good food’ is now also in the US Virgin Islands, at Yo Mama Kitchen International in The Plaza in Havensight.

    Big congratulations to you. I have a feeling you are going to expand to the mainland where there is a large Caribbean population. Golden Crust is very popular in the US.     Hard work and determination to reach your gold. I live in St.Thomas and myself and two of my coworkers ate there and the food I was simply delicious, some of the best Caribbean food we have had in a long time.     Finally some good home cooked food in St.Thomas. When over there a few weeks ago and couldn't find a decent plate of food. Seems like everyone over there is hooked on fast food and coffee..Congrats Marlon and the crew.
