Popular Jamaican DJ who resided in VI for years dies
David Richards, known to many as ‘Brown Man’, was a well known Disc Jockey and mechanic in the Virgin Islands.
According to reports, Richards received multiple gunshot wounds during a robbery in Jamaica over a year ago. He had recovered well after surgery and recently underwent a second surgery to remove bullets from his body. Reports indicate that Richards was hospitalised for a while after the surgery and succumbed yesterday, February 16, 2016 in Jamaica.
Many persons on Tortola described him as a “good guy” and expressed shock at his death as he had showed good signs of improvement following the shooting incident in which he was reportedly a victim of robbery.
President of the Association of Jamaican Residents (BVI), Mr Angus James recalled that Mr Richards was always willing to “help out with music” whenever the association had its food fair.
He said Mr Richards had never returned to the VI after he was shot.
Host of the popular Morning Ride Show on ZROD 103.7FM, Mr Paul ‘Gadiethz’ Peart said ‘Brown Man’ was well known in the music fraternity in the VI and would have made his contributions to it.
“Brown Man is quite popular in terms of his contributions to the entertainment industry of the Virgin Islands...putting out sounds at the beach and so forth.
“A lot of people would tell you too that he was a humble individual,” Mr Peart stated.
