Poor weather forces closure of Port Purcell Cargo Facility
Already, the weather has forced the closure of school last Friday with the weather service stating that more periods of shower and isolated thunderstorms may affect portions of the islands across the weekend.
Closure of facility
“Due to the current weather system that is passing over the Virgin Islands and the showers that are associated with it, BVIPA has made the decision to close the Port Purcell Cargo Facility,” Akeem R. Pickering, Deputy Managing Director of BVIPA said.
“Seas will continue to range mainly 4 to 6 feet across the Atlantic waters and local passages,” a release from the Department of Disaster Management notes, urging caution in relation to seaborne trade and small craft operators.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and will resume regular operations on Monday, October 15th 2018,” Deputy Managing Director Pickering said.
The DDM blames this unstable weather condition on an “abundant moisture interacting with an upper- level trough” just north of the region.
