Politicians put in spotlight @ Festival Calypso elimination
The event was titled Festival Friday with CCT taking the helm of the happy hour at Village Cay and being the host of the Festival 2015 Calypso competition elimination round.
Calypsonians touched on topical issues ranging from honouring Virgin Islands veteran politician Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE as done by Queen Shereen, ‘Cricket in Parliament’ as performed by King Paido as his selection hit at members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) ‘lashing every ball bowled’ by members of the VIP, especially Honourable Andrew A. Fahie and the party leader Honourable Julian Fraser, RA. One line in the song states, “Every ball Fraser bowl Myron batting”.
Ojinga had his plugs at politics too but he was more condemning of the politicians for not living up to promises made during their campaign, as one line said, “Is only elections time deh know poor people”.
The newcomer, Yung Blood, wowed the crowd with his well put together song titled 'Privilege of Freedom'. Yungblood delivered in a manner like someone who has been in the frontline of calypso for a number of years. He had the crowd on their feet and loud in their applause.
Nazarene, Mighty Maco, Mr Spice and Ranking Joey were eliminated leaving seven to come up against reigning Calypso Monarch Sistah Joyce on July 29, 2015 at Festival Grounds in Road Town.
Mighty Macko, Queen Makisha and Mighty Ley Ley dropped out of the competition at last minute, reducing the numbers of performers last night and additionally reducing the number selected to advance to the final.
Meanwhile, Sistah Joyce gave the crowd a sneak peek of one of her newest composition, which is a twist to the ever popular of 2014 “Who he hut he hut”.
The night was capped off in high voltage with the CCT dancers putting on a hot performance that had patrons calling for more.
