Policemen charged with facilitating escape of murder suspect in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Two policemen were Thursday charged with facilitating the escape of a murder suspect from lawful custody and they were granted bail.

The charges were arraigned before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the La Grange Magistrates Court, West Bank Demerara.

Constable 20836 Garfield Brown and Constable Smith were granted GIUY$75,000 bail each.

The facts are that they allegedly allowed murder suspect, Troy Joseph, who was wanted in Berbice for alleged murder and rape to escape from custody.

The policemen allegedly took GUY$40,000 to facilitate Joseph’s release on May 6,2014.
