Police upset Vikings in LIME Superfast T20 league
Police, on the back of a century partnership from Jomo Tony and Collis Fraser, made short work of group favourites Vikings to secure top spot in group 3.
Batting first and after a sluggish start, both Toney and Fraser began to free their arms, taking 22 off the 5th over and reaching the team 50 in the 6th.
Viking's never looked threatening with their ordinary bowling that were sometimes heaved out of the park. Their situation was not helped either when their top bowler and allrounder Vaden Walker pulled up injured in his first over and had to leave the field.
The 100 for Police came in the 11th over, with Fraser lofting a huge six over midwicket to also bring up his half century.
Toney reached the landmark two overs later, but fell shortly after, bowled Ronan Hushman, for 56. The same bowler then accounted for Fraser on 69 and Kevin Joseph three balls later and finished his spell with 3-22.
Denis Allister fell for 17 in the 17th over, Vic Seepersaud for 8 in the 18th and it was left to Adrian Kartik and Ricardo Noel to steer the police to 200.
Vikings’ response
As the Vikings set about the chase, Hushman fell in the first over, bowled by Noel and wickets just kept on falling as the Vikings seemed intent on hitting out or getting out. Even their 'big' batsman Kevin Walker failed to pull off any heroics on a tough day for the Vikings who really surrendered without much of a fight.
All out for 80 may well have put their progression into the second round in doubt, but that all depends on how the Jamaican team comes on Sunday April 19, 2015 against Wolues.
Anil Singh top scored with 16 for the Vikings and London finished with 3 for 20, Toney, 2 for 24 and Fraser, 2 for 7.
NTCOG vs Island Boys
In the first encounter of the day, five runouts for New Testament Church of God (NTCOG) crippled Island Boys in their bid to post a respectable total, managing only 159 all out in 18.4 overs.
Island Boys had earlier won the toss and elected to bat but their run scoring effort was in need of prayer. However, Lenroy Murray struck 69 runs from 43 balls with nine fours and three sixes. Wayne Phillip also chimed in with five fours from 24 deliveries for his 37 runs.
Filled with a competitive spirit, NTCOG was confident in their pursuit of the decisive win that determined which team would qualify for the second round of matches.
NTCOG Captain Earl Prescot's 3.4 overs for 19 runs and two wickets, matched up with 27 runs not out, with five smashing 4s helped to secure victory for NTCOG.
Mctair James took two wickets for 23 runs from three overs while Timon Robinson grabbed two wickets costing 38 runs from four overs.
NTCOG had a smooth ride to victory.
