BEEF ISLAND, VI- Several motor scooter riders who congregated at Long Bay Beach on Beef Island yesterday, August 14, 2021, had to find alternative transportation home when police seized their motor scooters in a major road patrol operation.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, earlier in the afternoon, police had responded to reports of a fight involving several persons at Long Bay.

A large number of motor scooter riders had also converged at Long Bay, some of whom were reportedly involved in the mass brawl.

Road Operation

It is unclear if anyone was arrested for being involved in the fight; however, police used the opportunity to continue its operation against persons violating the traffic laws.

In several videos shared with our newsroom, police could be seen confiscating a number of motor scooters in the vicinity of Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

The operation lasted well into the evening and, at the end of it, police loaded up a wrecker and a pickup truck with bikes and removed them from the area.

According to reports, some of the bikers were illegal.

It is unclear if anyone was arrested.

Operation against illegal bikes & noise nuisance

Commissioner of Police Mr Mark Collins had stated in May 2021, "that operations targeting motorists who violate the Road Traffic Laws would continue during the summer months."

He explained that "Those operations to pursue owners of illegal bikes and those that cause a noise nuisance are specifically planned to minimise the risks to riders, the public and officers."

But on the motorcycle issue, I fully agree with them, same should you. Why? Because for too long, we have been trying to find a way to solve this matter for years gone, but the motorcyclist remain determine to continue to ignor good and lawful judgment, in favour of their own selfish way. Enough is enough. We are trying to save the seed of our owns planting. You know what I mean. I am sure you do. They need our support, God's support much more.

Let’s be honest!! They’ve been warned a few times well. Let’s be honest! A decent numbers of mentoring sessions was held. Many tried to hep them but a lot of them refused to help themselves. This is the results.

nice one. well done police. been out running on beef and seen a police vehicle corralled by up to 50 bikes, joshing the vehicle from side to side. glad to see they have their comeuppance.

the spoilt youth of tortola need to find something else to do with their time than making unnecessary noise, pulling childish wheelies and intimidating law abiding folk

Well they need to stop people from parking directly on the highway hindering the free flow of traffic. Eg the area opposite the seven days church in east end close to the bridge. People are parking there directly on the highway making the road into one lane only this need to stop.

I have nothing against bikes, if your bike is insured, and legal and you're driving safe I don't mind it at all. But when you have no plates swerving in and out of traffic running red lights. Driving up and down with the exhaust cut off ect. then yeah something has to be done.

Sooo is it a potpourri of the Vi digit mixture of ethnicities that is polluting the atmosphere of tranquility with their disobedience of the laws disorderly conduct and lack of common decency?
Certainly it cannot be attributed to those of one predictable group whose absence or diminished presence would enhance a better quality of life in the once beautiful tranquil and crimefree VI.
