ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said it conducted a series of operations this past weekend, resulting in significant seizures and the arrest of an individual in possession of a prohibited firearm and drugs.

The operations, according to the RVIPF today, September 2, 2024, were part of the ongoing effort to enhance public safety and curb illegal activities within the community.

Firearm Seizure & Arrest

Police said officers of the Virgin Gorda Police Station responded to a report concerning a possible firearm possession at a local residence on Friday, August 30, 2024.

“Upon arrival, the officers were met by the father of the minor involved and granted permission to conduct a search. During the search, a green towel was discovered and upon inspection, the towel was found to contain a suspected AK-47 rifle and magazine with 18 rounds of ammunition.”

Police said the 14-year-old was immediately arrested and subsequently charged for Unlawful Possession of a Prohibited Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Explosives. He was granted bail to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on September 3.

Controlled Drug Seizure @ Scatliffe Alley

Later that evening, after 8:00pm, Officers conducted a search operation in Scatliffe Alley. During the search, a substantial quantity of controlled drugs was discovered hidden in an old refrigerator.

The drugs recovered included 357.1 grams of green vegetable matter suspected to be marijuana, 27.2 grams of a white powdered substance suspected to be cocaine, and 141.7 grams of an off-white, hard, rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine.

Ammunition Magazine Recovery @ Capoon’s Bay

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, another successful operation was conducted at Capoon’s Bay.

During a search, an extended empty magazine was discovered in an old discarded deep freezer located outside an establishment.

Officers were also able to conduct searches of over 20 persons and vehicles.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool stated, “These successful operations underscore our commitment to maintaining public safety and combating illegal activities in our community.”

The RVIPF encourages members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities. Persons can confidentially call the Crime Stoppers line 800-8477 (TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477 with the relevant information; or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

England will collapse before us. Have you seen what is going on up there. Be careful what you wish for because they are chasing black people from England, so you are not welcome there.

14 years old and already throwing his life away. Who was he hiding the gun for? It is so sad that he is too young to know the magnitude of his actions. I am so tired of continually hearing about how our BVI is turning into a war zone. Will we ever have peace again?

I applaud the recovery of the weapon but my God why so much information about the circumstances of how the weapon was found. These media houses have no form of censorship or filtering of information. No wonder in a small community no one wants to give information. They do and next they find themselves targeted. I'm sure information came from someone involved and the lack of censorship by the media is atrocious. The police need a media representative. A qualified one. My God!

Great the weed and coke sold together, with a side of bullets. Who knows if theres a bit of mixing going on, sprinkle sprinkle. By now we should have citizens walking into a store like a normal society to buy organic government or dispensary weed but noooo users/patients are forced to crawl in to shady places or call a shady guy with no quality control. Pass the cannabis bill govna

Quick to dislike my comment yet their own youth are visiting potential gun man & coke man for herbs. Its in the picture! Sticking your head in the sand and pretend a man made problem will go away. Typical.

Either they dont understand sarcasm or they are happy with the weed & coke being sold by the same people & supporting smugglers.

How would you feel if to get a drink, a cold beer, you have to go to a coke man and pray he aint contaminate the beverage. Make alcohol illegal again & that is what will happen. Legalize cannabis time to do it was decades ago. Back of the pack fear driven mentality. Cutting edge, regional leader, first slave revolt, where.... not here.

The comments say the youth is the problem... well let them walk in a store not a alley to make friends with convicts. Then we ask where they get the gun and how they get corrupted. OUR OWN SOCIETY criminalized them.
