Police discovers spent shells in vicinity of HM Prison

BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI – Information coming into our news centre, is that police acting on an anonymous report have discovered a large number of spent shells in the vicinity of the HM Prison, in Balsam Ghut, Tortola.

A police source told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that upon investigation on January 1, 2021, they discovered some 60 spent shells on the road a short distance from the HM Prison main gate. 

Most of the spent shells were in the middle of the road and a few on the roadside in the bushes.

Sources said the shells are from various semi-automatic firearms, however, it remains unclear under what circumstances the firearms were used.

VINO will bring more information as it becomes available.

      There is just one way to describe you and that is to say that you are stupid. Just some questions though were the shells dump there or were they from recent on site discharge of weapons? Please note also that the Police used a nearby piece of land for years for a range where various weapons were used. Normally these shells would have been collected and stored in containers.Could they be spent shells from this period which now found there way there by someone (or other means) who may had discovered them? That gunfire that produced 60 spent shell would have attracted attention and the police would have been alerted.

    Right about now I am soooooooo disgusted with the Police and all who are in authority to do something about these blasted children up and down the road with these noisy bikes all freaking Sunday and people can't get a rest. What has our country come to? Good law abiding citizens are being held hostage by these thugs.

    If you call the police who is right in their faces, they ask a bunch of nonsense and don't show up. You all better do something or else people will begin to take the law in their own hands. People are increasing becoming very agitated with these nuisances. They just don't stop. For hours, every day!!!

    I am so fed up that if I had a gun, I believe that I'll actually use.

    If it is just by the prison the staff there ought to hear if 60 shots were fired so since no one hear anything I could only assume someone just drive by and drop the shells there. The police need to investigate thoroughly because this could very well be a warning sign for someone at the prison.

      I WAS THINKING THE EXACT THING. I SEE IT AS A WARNING TO SOMEONE WORKING IN THE PRISON SUSTEM OR MAYBE ONE OR MORE OF THE INMATES. 60 SPENT SHELLS AND NO ONE HEAR ALL THOSE GUN SHOTS BLASTING THAT CLOSE TO THE PRISON? THEY WERE PLACED THERE AS A WARNING TO SOMEONE. 60 SPENT SHELLS, THAT IS A LOT, THAT MEANS WHOEVER THE MESSAGE OR WARNING IS TO WHEN WE COME, IT IS GOING TO BE BLAZING.

    There are firearms with silencer so you would not hear the explosion . It could be that someone place those empty shells in that location so persons could find them as a warning.
