Police- Be vigilant after late night outings
Acting Commissioner of Police Alwyn James says attacks on patrons outside of bars and other entertainment establishments will likely increase around Festival time as patrons exit various premises in the wee hours of the morning.
“Crime trends and analysis suggest that robbers are targeting persons around entertainment venues. These individuals in some cases are using weapons to strip their victims of their valuables including money, jewelry and cellular phones,” James said.
On Sunday night, one man claimed he was robbed of a cellular phone and laptop near the CSY parking lot by two perpetrators.
The Acting Commissioner noted that crimes of opportunity are rising as criminals are looking for persons who are paying less attention to their surroundings and are less careful about their personal property.
“These individuals are also looking for cellular phones, purses, and wallet left attended on counter tops, public restrooms and vehicle seats. They are also loitering in parking lots at popular entertainment sites and at ports of entry.
While these areas are patrolled by police, the public must do their part in protecting personal property by locking vehicle doors and securing valuables,” Mr. James noted.
Entertainment venues and bar owners are encouraged to provide the necessary lighting and cameras outside their premises so assailants are discouraged from loitering in these areas. In addition, cameras and notices advertising the existence of these security devices should also be erected.
