Police Association calls for payment of 'long overdue' increments & allowances
And with the matter remaining unresolved for an extended time, the Executive of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) has decided to make a public appeal to the relevant authorities to fix the issue.
“The Executive of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) is calling on the relevant Competent Authority to implement the necessary systems and functions and pull out all the stops to ensure that their members are paid their long-overdue, outstanding increments and allowances, the PWA stated in a press release today, May 25, 2022.
The PWA, in the press release signed by the Chairman, Acting Inspector Sean A. McCall, said it is calling on the relevant authority to ensure that all its members are paid in time for the May 31, 2022, pay period.
Meanwhile, the RVIPF has declined to comment on the matter.
‘Members have been extremely patient’- PWA
According to the PWA press release, the Police Welfare Association and its members understand the technical nature of the process involved; however, the members have been extremely patient, diligent, and tolerant in their attempts to bring some resolve to these “ailing and aging issues” of non-payment.
It disclosed that the issues and “discrepancies” with payment span a period of over two years, in some cases.
“These are matters of grave concern and rather troubling as it lends their contribution to the existing annoyance, frustration, and poor morale of its members who are no doubt disgruntled.”
Treat us ‘fairly’- PWA
The Police Welfare Association said it advocates for its members to be treated fairly and with some level of priority “as we form the major supporting pillar of the national security construct of the Virgin Islands.”
The Police Welfare Association also said it remains committed and dedicated to its members in the toughest of times.
“Equally, we stand dedicated and committed to our role and functions to the safety and security of the communities in the Virgin Islands.”
Our newsroom reached out to the RVIPF for a comment. “We would not be making a comment on this at this time,” the Acting Information Officer of the RVIPF, Akia L. Thomas, responded.

Yes they are some bad apples like in any other organisation but Police IS NOT more currupt than immigrationand customs. No way.
People as a matter of fact is the only Department that is locking up and Arresting their own. But Immigrationand Customs is doing absolutely nothing about their corrupt officers.
Leave the Police alone.

Sadly if you look into the history of policing its not what the PWA thinks it is, it's service above self,, you work hard without little or no reward but on retirement you will enjoy the fruits of your labour. If the police can put the same zeal and enthusiasm in solving the murders from the 80s to present day and the countless petty crimes which are not investigated.,then there might be a case for the police argument.
All we are seeing is most police are joining the Force only for self enrichment, particularly those who come from weaker economics, their objectives is to build a house, get free educational benefits and huge bank balance at the public expense.
While the citizens continued to suffer because the police motivation is not to protect and served but what's in it for me mentality.
The police force is in need of urgent reform starting with a public inquiry. However as time goes on nothing will never change.
