Poblete leads East to win over West!
Poblete and the East team led at the end of the 1st quarter 22-16 and increased that 6-point advantage into an 8-point lead, reaching the half ahead 37-29. The third quarter also went the way of the free scoring, East ending 59-47.
In the 4th quarter though, and under the constant encouragement of Coach Andrew A. Fahie who would later be named as Best Coach of the Tournament, the West team started to cut into the deficit.
Poblete was for once in the game kept quiet, but ultimately the West had left it too late. Poblete fittingly notched 2 free throws with 25 seconds left to secure the victory after Kyle Abraham had sunk a massive 3 pointer to enliven the crowd.
Poblete finished with 22 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Kelon Fortune added 15 points with 11 rebounds, Trayvonne Grant 13 with 3 rebounds and 4 steals and Clarke Santillan 10 with 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
“I told my teammates to just drive straight for the basket during the game,” said Poblete. “We played with great speed, great defense, kept our eyes open and kept moving.”
For the West, Abraham totaled 25 points with 9 rebounds, Alexander Jarvis 15 with 3 rebounds and 3 steals, Delvin Leonnard 9 with 9 rebounds and Tyrone Donovan 8 and 3 rebounds
As well as being later named as the SCBBC Intermediate League MVP, Poblete took the award of Most Points and Best Guard.
The Awards were handed out by Third District Representative Hon. Julian Fraser, R.A. and he also thanked the other Sponsors and commented on the commitment of Milton McLean, without whom the Tournament and many others would not have taken place.
Nathan Rodney claimed the Most Rebounds Award, Trayvonne Grant took Most Steals and Most Assists, Rolando Rogers claimed Most Blocks, Donnie Findlay Most Three Pointers and Rookie of the Year went to Delvin Leonnard. Alexander Jarvis took Best Guard, Mikey Joseph was named as Best Center. Kyle Abraham and Paul Linton were Best Forwards and Kelon Fortune took home the Sportsmanship Award.
The Future Stars were Lucky Reyes, Rushawn Johnson, Gianni Maduro, Dashan Hodge and Clark Santillan.
