Plaza Mini-Mart opens with community in mind
Plaza Mini-Mart, located in Baugher’s Bay, between Pearla’s Bar and VI Block, was opened this morning May 18, 2012 and is the newest addition to the business community.
According to owner Hazem Bazar, it was opened after consultation "with the people of the community and with them in mind".
“We took a survey, we walked around , we ask questions, Baughers Bay, Purcell, Bell Vue, all over and this is the answer that we got, we need good prices,” Mr. Bazar told Virgin Islands News Online in an exclusive interview.
The businessman, who hails from the Arab community in the Virgin Islands, he always listens to the people to bring reasonable prices. “That is what we did, fulfil the wish of what the people ask for and with everyone’s support and everyone’s help we will stay strong and bring the best prices that we can.”
While it is called a minimart, Mr. Bazar said it has everything from water to fresh produce. “It’s everything under one roof, it’s a one stop place to shop”.
A business is to make profit, but at the same time, the prominent businessman said it is also helping the people by bringing them good prices.
Admitting that there are other supermarkets in the Baugher’s Bay community, the businessman said the difference is those businesses are neither carrying the variety of products that the community wanted nor the right prices.
With the current economic climate, Mr. Bazar said one has to think positive and do what needs to be done.
Regarding a consistency in the price range and what the public can expect months or years ahead,Mr. Bazar said , “if you take a look at all the supermarkets and all the businesses that we have, we don’t have that change. We don’t take advantage of the people just to get you and then just trick you. We don’t work like that, we make small profits but we flip shelves.”
For him, the most important thing in his business is the customer’s trust. “If you lose your trust with the customer you are finished. So we stick to one price, anytime you see something raise its not because it’s in our hands, because it’s in the company’s hand who supplies us.”
Mr. Bazar thanked residents of the sixth district for allowing him into their community and pledged to be a good corporate entity.
“First of all we want to say thank you for welcoming us to your community, we thank the sixth district representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines, and we look forward to your support. We promised to bring it to you guys and any suggestions, our ears are always open to listen and we look forward to be here.”
A customer Ray Lewis said he works in the vicinity and with the store’s opening, it now gives him an opportunity to get his fresh produce easily rather than going into the “crowded One Mart and Riteway”.
Plaza Mart will be opened from Sunday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and even on holidays.
