GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- The BVI Cricket Association President’s XI had a comfortable 89-run win on Monday July 1, 2013 over the representative side of HMS Lancaster led by Governor William Boyd McLeary.

Having won the toss and batted first on the Greenland pitch, the President’s XI captained by Kevin Joseph rattled up 264 for 5 led by Maxford Pipe's 73 and Richard Frederick’s 51. Their bowling attack then proved too accurate for the sailors batting line up in restricting them to 175-5 from their 20 overs.

Both Pipe and Fredericks retired “out” to give the rest of the star-studded line up a chance to bat. Pipe hit five sixes and seven fours, whilst Frederick’s innings included eight fours and one maximum.

Joseph added a quick fire 35 and Kwesi Sinclair finished on 22 not out after the spin of Chris Sharp accounted for the wickets of Wynfield Ambrose (17) and Dennisford Brown (11) to create a little wobble in the middle order. He also picked up the wicket of Joseph to finish with 3 for 42 from his four overs.

In reply, the team from HMS Lancaster were soon in trouble at 22 for 3 and then 26 for four as Shane Sinclair, Pipe, Johnny Bailey and Jamal Mickle all picked up early wickets.

A late onslaught of 64 from Jamie Lee gave the score some respectability at 175 from their 20 overs, which according to wicket keeper batsman Steve Fields was their highest ever score by a long way.

Lee, who also opened the bowling, hit 8 fours and four sixes in a partnership of close to a 150 with Chris Viera who finished unbeaten on 59 with 7 fours and four maximums.

After the game Lee, on behalf of the Team from the Lancaster, made a presentation of the Ship’s plaque to BVICA President, Mr. Shan Mohammed and the Governor thanked everyone for making the afternoon a great occasion as well as inviting the gathered crowd to come and watch the rugby and football matches that will take place on the A.O. Shirley Ground on Wednesday evening.

It was so refreshing to see the Governor on the field. He bowled and fielded well; would've been nice to see him bat in the last over though.
Kudos to the Governor for being such a sport. Thanks for keeping it real!!!
