Phyllis Evans moves to new role; Bethsaida V. Smith-Hanley tipped for Clerk of HoA
Her departure from the HoA was announced by Speaker Corine N. George-Massicote at the Fifth Sitting of the First Session of the Fifth HoA today, October 31, 2023.
Members, speaking in the HoA earlier this morning, praised Mrs Evans for her work while at the Chambers for some 14 years.
All Members shared their different relationships with Mrs Evans and said they would miss her.
It is our understanding that Mrs Evans is going to be reassigned to another government job, notwithstanding it’s not a seven-day-a-week job.
Not gone as yet
According to sources familiar with this matter, Mrs Evans will be the Registrar of Members Public Interest. The Register of Interests was a sticking point for the one-man Commission of Inquiry called by a former UK Governor accusing the fifteen HoA members of the Fourth House of failing to comply with the Register of Interests Act for timely filing. It was found out after that many had been on time, according to the law and the records.
Smith-Hanley is front runner
Meanwhile, there have been many applications for the post of Clerk; however, it’s our understanding that Mrs Bethsaida V. Smith-Hanley has been tipped to be the new Clerk. She is currently employed at the Cabinet Office and has extensive experience in Government.
Mrs Smith-Hanley, a former Miss BVI, who has worked in Departments and Ministries and holds a Master’s Degree, could not be reached for comments.
It is also our understanding that the current Ag Deputy Clerk Ms Khauesten Industrious is expected to retire from her post in December of this year; however, it’s unclear if she is being reassigned.
