People feel like 'the walls of Jericho are falling'- Doug Wheatley
“They talk about the doctors at the Peebles Hospital have just gone on a sick-out it seems because of some difficulties that they are experiencing down there. And so there is a feeling pervading the country, that things are not going well, that, as one person said to me, all hell has broken loose, nothing seems to be working,” he remarked.
Country broke
According to Mr Wheatley, despite the denials by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL), the territory is indeed broke as all the signs are there.
“The country is broke. I know that the Minister of Finance doesn’t like us to say the country is broke, but obviously, they are having some financial problems. You know taxes and fees are going up,” the usual frank Wheatley said.
According to him, he was also met by expatriates who complained of the high fees that they have to be paying for work permits.
“And they are asking what is happening. What is happening to the BVI? Somebody said to me he came to the BVI over 36 years ago, he said it was a paradise, he said it was like no other Caribbean territory, he said he could leave his house unlocked and he could go downtown, go wherever and when he got back his house would be intact. You could leave the keys in your car, leave it unlocked and nobody would trouble it. He said it was a gem in the Caribbean, but he said it is losing its shine at this point because things seem to be topsy-turvey.”
Mr Wheatley continued, “So I am saying all this to say, that some folks approached me, and they say you know Doug; it’s like the walls of Jericho are tumbling down, like London bridge is falling down, and something has to be done.”
‘We need a turnaround’
The radio show host added that a request was even made for the song “Captain the ship is sinking” by Gypsy from Trinidad, but he was reluctant to play it.
“Because I don’t want it to appear that everything has gone to hell in a basket and that the BVI is in turmoil and that may be the reading by persons from the outside, and that may have an adverse effect on us. So I don’t want to go that far, but obviously, things are not going well and we need some kind of a turnaround in the BVI.”

Constituents are getting restless and peeved.
Can't now to give me a break. The world has changed. There is a TV in every house. People, even
children emulate bad behavior. BVI is still one of the best and safest places to live and work as
the world becomes older and more dangerous. You can't fight it. Just know God will soon come and
destroy it all, and remember with Fire this Time, yes, Fire this time. When you see turmoil look up
for the Dark Prince rules this wicked world so only God can help us all.
