People 'dying of cancer' from open burning of garbage– Hon Fraser
Speaking as a telephone guest on Da Morning Braff radio show with host Floyd Burnett aka 'Heritage' on Tola Radio this morning, November 1, 2022, Hon Fraser raised the issue of sewage treatment and burning of garbage in the territory.
“Since 2017, we are dumping the raw sewage from Road Town, Huntums Ghut, McNamara, Baughers Bay… in the waters, because we have a sewerage plant that is non-functional.”
He added that the people in charge and responsible for policy are not doing enough to keep the issue on the front burner.
He also spoke about the incinerator at Pockwood Pond that has not been fully functional for the past two years.
Open burning the 'order of the day'
According to the legislator, open burning of garbage is now the 'name of the game' and order of the day, given the non-functioning of the incinerator there.
“You know how many people are contracting cancer on a regular basis and dying in this territory? Far too much. It's endemic, and nobody's talking about this thing,” he added.
When asked if he has been highlighting the issues constantly in the House of Assembly, Hon Fraser said it has been a mantra of his to raise those issues in the HoA time and time again.
The legislator; however, called on the public to speak up on local issues rather than engaging in juicy gossip, or issues outside of what matters the most.

I just love campaign season. All these useless jokers suddenly have all these great concerns for the territory and step up on their soap boxes demanding change and solutions. How long has this man been an elected official? How soon is the election?
Now the former minister wants a million$ COI report but could not find a few hunvdred thousand $ to fix the incinerator. Where is the priority.
