ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Marine Branch have charged the two men found on the boat intercepted in a drug seizure near Cooper Island on Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2022.

Pedro Samuel Sr, 58, of Diamond Estate, and Reno Alphonso, 27, of Fort Hill were both charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply and failing to comply with a lawful order given by an officer.

The two will appear at the next available sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) stated in a press release today, August 15, 2022.

Vessel tried to evade police- RVIPF

Police said officers of the Marine Branch, while on routine sea patrol, gave instructions to the captain of a suspicious vessel seen heading in the direction of Cooper Island to stop. The captain, however, attempted to evade police. A second attempt to the stop vessel was successful.

An initial search of the vessel uncovered a small quantity of what was suspected to be cocaine in the bow of the boat. A subsequent and more detailed search of the boat uncovered over 400 kilograms of the illegal substance, the press release stated.

Drug traffickers ‘will have a very difficult time’ @ sea- Police Inspector

Supervisor for the Marine Branch, Acting Chief Inspector Dean Robin highlighted his officers’ routine, yet passionate and consistent drive in keeping the Territory safe from illegal activities.

“These officers embrace the battle at sea with a passion and regularly stop and search suspicious vessels. We are confident that with the eyes of our Marine Branch and help from other law enforcement agencies both locally and within the US, persons hoping to use these waters for drug trafficking will have a very difficult time,” the Acting Chief Inspector noted.

What's the point if people have to do this multiple times? Its a lose lose situation. The life of a pawn is for idiots. You've got to be an idiot to still be doing this after everything. Pawns getting roasted. Routine patrol pshhh lol

It is amazing to me that these photographs are being displayed when usually pictures of convicted (note I said convicted not merely charged) thieves and pedophiles NEVER make it into the media (particularly if they are indigenous offenders). Can the media be a little more consistent with pictures so that good honest people can be put on alert whenever thieves, rapists and pedophiles are in our presence?

The identities of these people are often hidden to protect the victims, who are often related to the perpetrators.

I never heard about that, but then again I stay under a rock most times. Its crazy that you ask that or reportedly heard about it, because I literally awoke from a nightmare involving mountain lions and Tigers and the like that was for some reason roaming the uninhabited wild lands on our island, only to end up coming down into the highly populated areas to feed...it was wild! Truly a nightmare I am happy to be awakened from. Still a little disturbed by it and very concerned now about possible sightings of other dangerous invasive creatures. Which department(s) will investigate that?

why are the small men being locked up? while the officers who pledged to uphold the law are the very ones to break it, the police officials who were caught with a truckload of illegal drugs are still walking around freely on the streets.

the example should have been made with the officer from the start; not the public.

I think the lawyers should make a point in court with such cases on the authorities and drugs being set free. something is wrong with the judicial system

some of the nasty enforcement officers walking free: some were granted bail and skip the justification: some of them still have involvement with the narcotics people
