Patsy C. Lake calling it quits after one year!
In an election on December 15, 2015 at Ellis Thomas Downs that saw a small turn out of horse owners and the absence of some members who were nominated and reelected, veteran horse owner, businesswomen, and local heroine, Mrs Lake was elected President of the VI Horse Owners’ Association to serve for the 2016 term.
The mother of horse owner Alex V. Lake of Family Affairs Stables, had beat out seasoned horse owner of many of the best horses in the Virgin Islands, Mrs Violet 'Letty' Delville-Hodge.
Halfway into her tenure, however, Mrs Lake has already stated that she may not put herself up for relection when her tenure expires in December 2016.
“I would like to say thank you to all who have attended this luncheon, thanks for coming, I look forward to you continuing to come and come again because we got so much more before the year closes off and before I give up my presidency,” announced Mrs Lake at the conclusion at the luncheon to honour a number of horse racing stalwarts on June 19, 2016 at Ellis Thomas Downs.
Following her announcement, persons at the luncheon encouraged her to stay on, saying she was doing a “good job” as president.
“I know that is what you wish me but unfortunately or fortunately it reads 71 and not 17, so you understand what I am saying,” Mrs Lake said.
Following her election, Mrs Lake sought to immediately bring recognition to persons who made invaluable contributions to the sport of horse racing over the years.
One of her intentions is to have regular horse races in the VI, something which she has been able to achieve so far.
A new starting gate is also to be realised for Ellis Thomas Downs under Lake’s tenure.
