DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Former Senior Pastor of New Life Baptist Church (NLBC) Mr John I. Cline is alleging his son Jovan E.L. Cline, who is the new Senior Pastor of NLBC, was among a group of persons held at gunpoint outside of UP’s Cineplex recently.

Mr Cline made the disclosure on a Facebook live post on June 27, 2023.

Lamenting about the state of deterioration of the Virgin Islands society, Mr Cline said he was in New Orleans at the time when he received a call from his son Jovan.

“And he said Dad, I don’t want you to be alarmed about anything [and] I certainly don’t want you to hear it elsewhere, so I am ok, so let me tell you first. He called me about three Mondays ago, in the morning, and said I was held up at gunpoint last night with three of my friends.

“They had just come out of the movies, just sitting on the side chatting like any other ordinary Sunday night, and this young man, whoever he was, fully masked and armed, stuck a gun in his face, hit two of them with a gun in their head and demanded they empty their pockets.”

Mr Cline then said a friend of his has expressed alarm that two sons of pastors could be held at gunpoint and reminded that his son is also a pastor.

“This is what we have come to in the Virgin Islands, that you could just be standing on the side of the road and somebody walked up to you and you are robbed.”

‘Forget God & Satan will rule’

He said the sad thing is that gun violence and gun crimes have become almost commonplace in the territory and recalled that it was since 20 years ago he has been saying that people who forget God are going to reap the consequences of such.

He also recalled his grandmother often saying if God is forgotten Satan will rule.

“And what we have done in the Virgin Islands, we have fooled ourselves into thinking that our material prosperity, the money we have in the bank, the houses we have, the cars we drive, have made us a bit arrogant, a bit self-confident, and thinking, one, we don’t need God, two, we don’t need the church…”

Meanwhile, it is unclear if the matter has been reported to the police, as Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton said there was no such incident on record for that time period.

There was an incident in the police info several weeks ago, Very vague with no specific information as to exact location, what happened etc. Very sketchy. The news got hold of it because JC had a FB live yesterday.

Rejoice not at anybody's downfall because there goes me, you or our own children but for grace of the Almighty. Why did the gentlmen, who are involved in community work not make it a point to warn others, especially the young people to be vigilant. It did not have to be kept secret because from all accounts, a gunman with a gun is out there, and why not warn others to watch their backs.

Let us all be careful out here

Why do you sound like Trump? How right hand car become part of the subject at hand? You could as well blame it on China????????????????????
If you people don’t have anything sensible to comment, just be quiet.

Police can’t be everywhere. If the police start going to UPs, the perpetrators will find somewhere else to hangout as well and commit their crimes. They could be watching you. So, a word of advice is for you to watch your back and be sure not to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And remember, it could happen to you, it could happen to me!!

What exactly was robbed, and how much? Filing a police report would have lent credibility.

Reminds me of maga and juicy smurlette.

I read and re-read the 2nd to last paragraph of the article which I find so pathetic. Same person who preach prosperity taking the truth to make it a lie. But evil men and imposters shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. A perfect example of changing the truth of God into a lie.

The devil is not afraid of nobody. Churches better stop playing around and preach God word

Ok daddy I wanted to tell you first, please don't take back the church. I know Sunday is the Lord's day and I should not have cancel church to go to the movie but I have seen you done worst. When you give your children a platter that they have not earned or worked hard for these things happen. There is another church in the east that have shares. All shares own by family. So every dollar you give a son who is on drugs get 5 cents to go and blow smoke in the air. All in the good old toland.

is sorely lacking in this robbery story. If any of this robbery story is true then crime does pay when the victim is a pastor and incapable of calling the police when daddy is off island.

Something is not adding up . The victims supposedly were held at gunpoint, a violent crime which has been wreaking havoc in the community and adversely impacting the community’s quality of life, yet it seems the police was not contacted. Were the victims threatened that if the police was contacted there would be further retribution with hell to pay? Is this the type of behaviors, courage that community leaders, especially religious leaders, should be demonstrating? 2+2 is not adding up to 4. Thus tory need to be further fleshed out. Where is the faith, courage , conviction, personal example of doing not only what I but also what I do? Is this an example for the flock? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!

I was held up at gun point before at age 12 that experience never leave you. It destroys your whole sense of security.

For all of us living here judging him for speaking out. Wait until the shoes is on your foot. Because, God do not like UGLY.

Sorry all of you had to experience this. I pray we all start to work together to stop the criminal activities.

You know, after giving a hard and long thought over the matter, it seems to me, that what happened, could be deemed justifiable.

In the same manner many congregants are hijacked of their hard earned monies, by unscrupulous bishops and pastors on Saturday and Sunday, these young men, also, were hijacked,of their earnings.

Folks, you can't have it both ways! The good book says, whatsoever a man soeth, that, shall he also reapeth!

What's good for the goose, is good for the gander!
