ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Drivers in the Virgin Islands (VI) are being advised that effective immediately, persons will not be permitted to park on the Road Town Festival Grounds, as preparations get on the way to facilitate the 70th Festival Celebrations.

“To ensure a smooth and safe festival experience, parking restrictions will be in effect until August 16, when regular parking will resume. Your usual understanding and cooperation is appreciated,” a bullitin issued by the Government noted.

This year’s festival celebrations will be done under the theme “Celebrate our freedom and Live in Unity, As BVI Festival turns 70!”

The slogan was created by 20-year-old Briana Blyden who is currently in College in Miami after winning the slogan competition on Friday, April 26, 2024.

The main festival village of the 70th [British] Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival will be named in honour of Jost van Dyke native Larina Loretta Jacobs-Lamothe aka ‘Rena’.

If only y'all would build or expand some parking lots instead of people buying the land and charging you to park there with a gate. Madness. Place looks so ghetto during the work week.

No, they keep allowing people to use up the parking spaces to wash vehicles and sell food. Neither food vans nor car washes should be allowed to permanently use parking spaces for their business enterprises. Votes are more important than commonsense so we ALL must suffer the consequences of ignorance.

Though we were going to use the New space. To me the new space is better. This is one the reasons why. Now 50 cara have to find new parking in a town where there is no parking.. With the new site, we have no Parking Issues.. More breezy. How many people fainted at the old site "a lot- too hot". Its bigger than the old site. It hold up good under those heavy rains..better than the old site..I prefer the New site. Coney Island can fit on that large lot next to Yo mama. But I concede it makes sense close the old site down with the 70th Get the new site better prepared for the 71st onwards

Just how town planning rightfully went against using the admin village for festival is thr same way they need to order the premayor to remove all the dirt dumped by lower estate museum. Added to the stunking look in the middle of town, the dirt mountain is contributing to flooding and also tsking up badly needed parking spot. His wrecklessness going mek we sink. It must be policies before politics

Pope is bright and smart. Very wise. He is very courageous and breve unlike us from here who scared to open our months but Quick to criricize those who do. I will admit. Pope has a strong warriorish intimidating personality. Week people can't deal with him. I spoke with him often. He can factually reason.

All the taximen safaris, coaster buses and their private vehicles are using up all the parking in the parking lots across from bobbys.down to village cay . There's an unlicense pickup holding 2 parking spaces for about 5years now . There's spaces allocated to the taxistand and they need to realize that other person need to park as well . Government should consider allowing the safaris to be parked in a portion of the reclaimed land behind the complex as they would be closer to the cruise pier .

I suggest/recommend during this period of no parking at the festival grounds, they allow parking in the newly graded area behind the Admin Complex.
Have shuttles available to transport workers to their offices.
It can also be a means of getting some exercise having to walk however far, to our destinations.
